I stayed here in the middle of November last year with three colleagues for 2 nights. I was the one who organised this hotel and I always worry when it is my turn to organise the trip that I am going to book a bad hotel, but this hotel did not disappoint. In fact when some other people from our office were working up this way a few weeks later they also booked themselves into this hotel.

The rooms were of a good size, were quiet and had a comfy bed - so the perfect environment for a good nights sleep. The only issue I had with the room was when some tiles under the sink in the bathroom fell off - which was a bit strange as the bathrooms I believe had only recently been updated.

The best part of this hotel though was the food. The breakfast in the morning was freshly cooked and absolutely gorgeous. I had porridge on the first morning, it was lovely and thick and creamy. As well as freshly cooked hot food they also had a cold buffet with fruit, cereals, pastries ect. The only draw back to the breakfast was the waitresses and the speed of service- they really did not seem to have a clue what they were doing and I appreciate the food was freshly cooked but the chef took ages to produce it. Luckily we could spare the time to wait, unlike other business guests who had to cancel their order and leave for work - so allow plenty of time.

On the second evening we had dinner in the hotel restaurant, the evening restaurant staff being a lot more with it and capable. The food was slightly pricey but not extortionate and like breakfast was delicious, with lots of different choices. There is also an Italian restaurant just down the road from the hotel which was recommended to us, unfortunately the night we wanted to go it was closed for a private function.

As we were working we did not get to see any of the local area, but if you are planning on having an explore a round I would recommend either taking your own car or hiring a car.

Overall a lovely hotel and if I was up this way again I would definitely consider staying here again.

Stayed for several days here using the hotel as a base to see the area. Got the recommendation here from a trip advisor forum! This is a lovely very old posting hotel which has been totally refurbished. If however you don't care for old buildings being redone in a contemporary manner you won't be very happy with this. But if you like character and modern conveniences combined, you should be pleased. The rooms are a good size, we had a deluxe double so had a nice sitting area separate from the bedroom. The baths are modern and well equipped although the shower is a bit weak. Full english breakfast included, and the dining room is nice for dinner too. The place is hopping with business meetings and people having drinks in the lounge. The town is lovely, with many restaurants and verynice shops, considering it's a very small place. All in all a nice place for a couple of days if you're in the area.
