i knew things weren't going to be great when we had to fight our way through five men smoking on the hotel steps just to get in the place. The receptionist was quite friendly, just the right side of slightly disinterested to get away with it. A "hope it's a nice room" comment from my husband was met with an almost Stepford wife reply of "I like it" from her before she'd even input our details into the PC. As we traipsed up several flights of stairs on the threadbare carpet and onto a corridor, the formica hotel doors and the bits of wallpaper missing from the walls confirmed my suspicions before we'd even put the key in the door.
And there it was...hell.
Possible the thinnest mattress I'd ever seen but as I found out between 12 and 4 in the morning not as thin as the walls appeared to be.
The bathroom was big and ever so 1970's..though not retro 1970's...just the real deal. An old bath, a manky shower curtain, old worn but clean bath towels and a cheap as chips plastic toilet seat. The bright orange ??? pine furniture adorning the room had that marvellous feature where each time you open a drawer only one side deigns to come out at a time, resulting in the whole thing rocking backwards and forwards like a weeble. The curtains had added appeal in that when you tried to shut them they slid along to the middle leaving the opposite ends of the window exposed, the securing curtain hooks long since broken/stolen/never bothered to be fastened on(delete as you see fit) in the first place.
The acoustics in the hotel however were second to none. As I lay in my bed at midnight, I took a trip down memory lane as I recalled with fondness all those old wedding hits that DJ's seem to feel are mandatory to play.."Karma Chameloen", "Love Is All Around Us", "Oops Upside Your Head" and "I Just Called To Say I Love You". I even felt a little emotional as the DJ toasted the bride and groom (Sharon and Kyle or Leanne and Mike or some such) one last time before they retired to their honeymoon love nest for the night. The fact that I was two floors up away from where the wedding was held seemed impressive to even a lay person like me who knows nothing about how sound travels. So, I'll end on a positive, thank you Danum for providing me with a great evening's entertainment and even though I obviously missed out on the buffet (sausage rolls, pork pies and egg mayo sarnies I'm thinking) I'll raise a toast one more time to the lucky bride and groom and wish them well.

I live in Doncaster and I am sorry to say I would not recomend this hotel to anyone, the one time I visited this place i found the assistant manager ( I saw this badge on her lapel) was very un helpful, she just stood at the entrance. nobody was in the (new) bar to serve so after waiting for seems like half an hour we walked out. You would be better off going to the Regent Hotel which is also near the town centre

Stayed at the Danum Hotel for one night, whilst in Doncaster, booked through their website, which was cheaper than other web sites. Hotel was very helpfull, in making ammendments to my booking at the last minute. Friendly staff, very helpful. Rooms clean, tidy. Breakfast was to a high standard and plenty. One little issue, car parking, get in early, as limted spaces.
In all this Hotel is a 3 star, but strives to be a 4 star in service and hospitallity. Excellent loaction for Bars and restaurants and shops.

i booked this via the hotels website, extremely cheap rate but im glad i didnt look at tripadvisor before i left. the lobby are is nothing short of 5star. it looks the part and leads into dn1...a new bar lounge which serves the best food in doncaster, from homemade burgers/pastas to fine fish (i sampled all 3) [--] i think theres a menu on there. i don't know who the chef is but he is really that good im def going back to this hotel when i stay in doncaster or in south yorkshire next. oh the hotels rooms are nice to, the newly refurb rooms are obv better with flatscreen tv in them. i was staying in a standard double and the hotel was quiet so they gave me a free upgrade which really showed me they care about customers. its location is not half bad either, right in the middle of town (the only decent hotel in town - most of the others are b/bs which are just large houses with very little facilities). its close to the train station and next to the shops, thanks to all the staff @ the danum

i have stayed at this hotel many times over the past couple of months for work purposes and it has a great city centre loaction, only about a 15minute walk from the train station and has shops/bar/restaurants on the doorstep.
the staff are very friendly and helpful, nothing is ever a problem for them.

the rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, lcd tv's, hairdryers, and some toiletries. Some of the rooms are a bit hot however.

the new bar and restaurant within the hotel (dn1) is gorgeous. the menu is great and the prices reflect the quality of the food. and they have a great cocktail menu!!

all in all i would definately recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a central location.
