old hotel in need of major update. I think some refurbishment may be underway in the reception area judging by the lack of floor covering. Rooms old, peeling wallpaper, dirty carpets, mouldy bathroom, even the orange juice on the breakfast buffet looked as if it had been there for quite some time!

“Disgusting !!!”

God where do I start ? The appearance of the hotel should have been a big clue. Walking into the hotel you cannot help but notice the hole in the wall that they have tried to cover up .
Once inside the smell hits you, I dont know if it was the mouldy carpert or just the general state of the hotel. Apparently the hotel was in the middle of a refurbishment and god does it need it !!
There was one lift that could just about fit 2 people in it, thats when the rubbish isnt in it. I had to wait to use the lift because the staff were bringing the rubbish bins upstairs from the basement. When we did use it there were flies in it !!
The hotel room had a terrible smell the furniture looked liked the left overs from the 70s. The bathroom was awful and needed a good clean.
Yes the hotel is central but it was so bad we paid for one night but left after less than an hour.

“Horrible”

Danum Hotel

Having stayed in hostels and hotels all over the world I can safely say that The Danum was the worst place I have ever stayed. We arrived late on a Friday night so unfortuately couldn't move hotels, but instead of staying a further night we moved first thing on Saturday morning.

The room we were given was dirty and very dusty. The tea and coffee making facilities had not been properly washed and had only been wiped. The sheets was so rough that we both had sore shoulders and elbows in the morning. The overriding complaint was how cold we were in the room. The windows need updating and there is no heat at night. Even with jumpers, two blankets and the bedspread it was worse than camping!

In the morning there was no indication of when breakfast was so when we were five minutes late there was nothing available. And to complete the hotel from hell, the room lost all power so I was unable to dry my hair.

Our recommendation - do not stay here!!!!!! For the same money there are much nicer, cleaner and quieter places to stay.

Great location in the centre of Doncaster, very convenient for the great shops and bars nearby. The hotel itself shows its age, and although the bathrooms seem to be brand new - the rest of the acommodation is in urgent need of improvement. Having said this, having stayed here a number of times over the years the rooms have always been perfectly clean.
Service is very friendly, and would recommend the Danum if you are in town for shopping and / or a night out. If looking for more luxury - you will need to look elsewhere,

We went on a bit of a "lads weekend" and stayed at the Danum Hotel in Doncaster in October 2005. The hotel was very pleasant to stay in but maybe a little expensive for what it offers.

We stayed in a Deluxe twin room which was very comfortable and also included a seperate seating area with a couch and a second 14" TV. The room was very clean and felt "homely". The only slight gripe was that the people staying down the corridor could be heard opening and shutting their doors throughout the night.

You cannot fault the location of this hotel- its right in the middle of Doncaster's city centre and has many bars, clubs and take-aways on the surrounding streets. Its perfect for the drunken stumble back to hotel.

The hotel car park is very small and only has a limited number of spaces so if there is a hotel exhibition going on, chances are you'll have to use the local NCP car park instead. Even if you do park at the hotel, you need to leave you keys with reception so they can move the cars around as necessary to get everyone in.

The lobby area was nice and clean and the breakfast was very enjoyable too.

Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Danum and I would have no problem in recommending and staying at this hotel again. The hotel isnt spectacular by any means but offers a comfortable stay and the location is great.
