i booked this via the hotels website, extremely cheap rate but im glad i didnt look at tripadvisor before i left. the lobby are is nothing short of 5star. it looks the part and leads into dn1...a new bar lounge which serves the best food in doncaster, from homemade burgers/pastas to fine fish (i sampled all 3) [--] i think theres a menu on there. i don't know who the chef is but he is really that good im def going back to this hotel when i stay in doncaster or in south yorkshire next. oh the hotels rooms are nice to, the newly refurb rooms are obv better with flatscreen tv in them. i was staying in a standard double and the hotel was quiet so they gave me a free upgrade which really showed me they care about customers. its location is not half bad either, right in the middle of town (the only decent hotel in town - most of the others are b/bs which are just large houses with very little facilities). its close to the train station and next to the shops, thanks to all the staff @ the danum

i have stayed at this hotel many times over the past couple of months for work purposes and it has a great city centre loaction, only about a 15minute walk from the train station and has shops/bar/restaurants on the doorstep.
the staff are very friendly and helpful, nothing is ever a problem for them.

the rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, lcd tv's, hairdryers, and some toiletries. Some of the rooms are a bit hot however.

the new bar and restaurant within the hotel (dn1) is gorgeous. the menu is great and the prices reflect the quality of the food. and they have a great cocktail menu!!

all in all i would definately recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a central location.

old hotel in need of major update. I think some refurbishment may be underway in the reception area judging by the lack of floor covering. Rooms old, peeling wallpaper, dirty carpets, mouldy bathroom, even the orange juice on the breakfast buffet looked as if it had been there for quite some time!

“Disgusting !!!”

God where do I start ? The appearance of the hotel should have been a big clue. Walking into the hotel you cannot help but notice the hole in the wall that they have tried to cover up .
Once inside the smell hits you, I dont know if it was the mouldy carpert or just the general state of the hotel. Apparently the hotel was in the middle of a refurbishment and god does it need it !!
There was one lift that could just about fit 2 people in it, thats when the rubbish isnt in it. I had to wait to use the lift because the staff were bringing the rubbish bins upstairs from the basement. When we did use it there were flies in it !!
The hotel room had a terrible smell the furniture looked liked the left overs from the 70s. The bathroom was awful and needed a good clean.
Yes the hotel is central but it was so bad we paid for one night but left after less than an hour.

“Horrible”

Danum Hotel

Having stayed in hostels and hotels all over the world I can safely say that The Danum was the worst place I have ever stayed. We arrived late on a Friday night so unfortuately couldn't move hotels, but instead of staying a further night we moved first thing on Saturday morning.

The room we were given was dirty and very dusty. The tea and coffee making facilities had not been properly washed and had only been wiped. The sheets was so rough that we both had sore shoulders and elbows in the morning. The overriding complaint was how cold we were in the room. The windows need updating and there is no heat at night. Even with jumpers, two blankets and the bedspread it was worse than camping!

In the morning there was no indication of when breakfast was so when we were five minutes late there was nothing available. And to complete the hotel from hell, the room lost all power so I was unable to dry my hair.

Our recommendation - do not stay here!!!!!! For the same money there are much nicer, cleaner and quieter places to stay.
