We don't often stay in hotels in Doncaster as my husband's family live there. We couldn't stay with them this time, so I booked the Holiday Inn at the last minute for £77 for 1 night Saturday stay in an executive room, B&B.
The reservation lady told me that there was only 1 double room left, and quoted a price.
We arrived at teatime, and noticed that there were 2 weddings on at the hotel on that day. We went up to the room, which was at the front of the hotel, and were pleased with it - it was spotlessly clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. It was pretty warm though, and although air conditioning had been installed, there was a card telling us that it was not yet working. We left the window open and went to visit some relatives.
We returned at about 11pm, and I noticed how quiet the wedding in the old building was. We had no choice but to leave the window open and sleep on top of the duvet because of the heat.
We were unfortunately disturbed by drunk wedding guests outside, shouting, singing, fighting etc - not just once, but several times over several hours. Did they deliberately stand under our window???
My husband got up to use the gym on the Sunday morning, and found it to be unbelievably hot - so much it shortened his workout considerably.
I spent most of the time while he was in the gym hunting for the remote control for the TV - there wasn't one.
We went down for breakfast, which was good. Nice and fresh with most things you could want. There were things on the menu that weren't evident - I guess the wedding guests worked up a hunger during their late night antics and gorged themselves before we got there. The coffee machines doled out acceptable cappucino, which you normally can't order for breakfast, but it wasn't the highest quality.
Check out was easy - I had paid in advance, and the location is vry convenient. I would stay again if I had to, but would ask to be somewhere towards the back of the hotel as I am not good when my sleep is disturbed!
