The pictures of the hotel look lovely and Britannia hotels have a reputation for providing affordable and comfortable hotel rooms but this hotel really is terrible and it is such a shame.
I should probably have taken notice at the 2 people in front of me when we were checking in who were complaining.
The hotel needs to be shut down and entirely modernised. The lobby area makes it look very plush but beyond that are dirty rooms contained dated and decaying furniture which are all layered with dust. The bathroom was also filthy, I honestly felt I came out the shower dirtier than I was when I went in. The walls are paper thin but each section contains about 4/5 rooms from what I saw so noise is only a minor issue. The beds are uncomfortable, due to them probably being far too old. The rooms are equipped with TV's which appear to be from the early to mid 1990s.
The draw to the hotel was the jacuzzi, swimming pool, gym and it's location to the nearby town of Didsbury. It is approx a 10 minute walk into Didsbury. It is a pleasant walk mostly on flat ground. We had to pay extra for the gym/pool each day. Think it is £4 plus £1 for the towel. The pool itself is small but adequate, the jacuzzi is falling to bits and the gym is full of old mismatched equipment and the machines will not give you a full cardio/resistance workout.
My advice is to look elsewhere for your hotel, even if it means paying slightly more. We paid £60 per night through Booking.com for a stay that was just terrible. Don't let the Britannia Hotel and Country Club ruin your trip to Manchester/Didsbury.
We stayed on the first floor and the rooms were small and filthy. Higher floors may have better qual...
