My partner and I are currently staying in The Mecure Rennes Centre Parliament for our second visit to Rennes. We have never taken breakfast in the hotel as we prefer to go out and sit in a cafe and watch the world go by in this beautiful city, so I cannot comment on the breakfast.
The staff are extremely helpful, I would particularly like to say thank you to Dominique who has been a great help in finding us somewhere to celebrate New Years Eve with just a few days notice. She also pointed out areas on the city that are nice to walk around. I have not had one experience where staff have not been able to communicate with me in English and since our stay we have dealt with 3 different people on reception, all were helpful and fulfilled our requests instantly. Expecting to come to a foreign country and thinking everyone will speak English is ridiculous! I wonder how many foreign languages people in England know in order to accommodate our foreign visitors??!?! Not many I'd say! Knowing a few simple French phrases and carrying a French phrase book has enabled us to communicate effectively, so I'd suggest if your French is limited (like mine!) carry a French dictionary or phrase book. So without wanting to rant on about other peoples small mindedness anymore I'll get back to my review!
On our first visit we had a non smoking privilege room, which was massive! Very clean, a wonderful selection of toiletteries. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have had in any hotel, a proper double bed, which was made everyday. We are currently in a smoking room on our second visit, which was our choice as we are both smokers. The smoking privilege room isn't a patch on the non smoking room, but this is always the case with smoking rooms and so we don't see it as a problem. The bed is still as comfortable though and we are more than happy. The garden view is also nice.
The location of the hotel is perfect! Smack bang in the middle of the city and within easy walking distance of lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. If you are coming to Rennes do not hesitate in booking this hotel, the staff, the location and the rooms are all of a very good standard. We are thoroughly enjoying our second stay and will definitely be back for a third!
Go for non-smoking room on a high floor if you want a nicer room
