Domaine de la Tortiniere

We stayed here in a suite with 3 children (5 years down to 8 weeks) for 3 days in March 2008. I can confirm what all the other reviews say about the levels of service and the hotel itself. The staff are excellent without being overbearing and there is a friendly feeling from the front desk, through the owners, the grounds staff and the housekeeping staff. The restaurant and the food are also well worth it and I would recommend them even if you were not staying at the Hotel. We enjoyed every part of our stay with our little girls thinking they were princesses in a castle. The only thing that I would have changed would have been that the door from our suite to the bedroom squeaked - a drop of oil would have sorted this out and that was only a complaint to balance out the review!!

This place is enchanting, I can only imagine how beautiful and captivating it must be in the summer time when the weather is warm and flowers are in bloom for visitors to sit outside and enjoy the view. It's in a great location close to the main road, just less than 10 minutes away by car from all the restaurant and shops but yet you feel you are tucked away in private estate.

We spent two nights here. Great first impression, and one of the staff members showed us to our cozy room with fantastic picturistic view from the window. You can see the fall colored trees in the backyard facing the pool. The tasty free apperitiff in the room was a nice touch. The bathroom was very clean with nice toiletries, guest robes, and towel warmer. The room has flat screen tv, free wi-fi, ample closet and room for storage, remote control heater/AC. The king sized bed could be more comfortable along with down feathered pillows that flatten after 5 minutes. The hotel staff were a bit assertive on getting us to eat at the hotel restaurant by asking questions like "would you like to have breakfast in your room or downstairs" assuming we'd already agreed to take breakfast at the hotel. Apparently, the breakfast is automatically added to the room stay and the hotel staff had to take it off our bill.

Overall, I would not mind coming back here in the summer time for the view but not for a long stay due to the comfort of the mattress.

“Romantic hideway in the Loire”

Domaine de la Tortiniere

The highlight of our three week Europe trip was a two night stay in this wonderful chateaux in the Loire Valley. What a wonderfully romantic place to have a couple of days peace and quiet, walking through the grounds and watching the sunrise in the morning from the first floor balcony.
Strongly recommend you pay the extra to make sure you stay in the chateaux itself as there are rooms separate from the chateaux. Although more than comfortable staying in the chateaux itself is an experience and beautifully furnished with tasty fabrics and furniture. Highliy recommend the breakfast in bed - silver service - just remember to order eggs and bacon if you want heated!!
The chateaux has a boat availabe for guests to row down to Montbazon. Great castle and plenty of good local restaurants.
Staff were extremely helpful and spoke very good English. Always willing to help out and suggest things to do in the Loire Valley. Would highliy recommend staying for an extra night, hiring a car and visiting a few of the large chateauxs.
restaurant was also very good and it was great to have a drink in the private guest bar where games and good conversation is always available.
Unfortunately the swimming pool was not available as shutting dwon for winter but it looked great. If you want to haev a relaxing and romantic few days away then this place would be hard to beat. Fantastic.

“Very relaxing and pretty chateau in great location”

Domaine de la Tortiniere

Travelled with our two young children in August. Grounds are very pretty. Staff were very helpful and accomidating. Very good restaurant. Very good breakfast which they will serve in your room. Beautiful views from the main chateau of the Loire valley. Very good location. 10 mins from Tours, 20 mins to Amboise, 20 mins to Chenonceau. On the down side, carpets a bit worn and rooms could use some renovation to be up to four star standards. Overall, was very pleased that we stayed there and would stay again.

We stayed at Tortiniere for 3 nights in August 2007. Although many reviews say the place is good for kids, it is probably good for teenagers and not young kids. Grounds are beautiful. Dining at the terrace is really relaxing. Great views. However, they do request you to dress up a bit for dinner. Little did we know. We just arrived from Dordogne after a 6 hr drive and showed up in shorts...oops. It was also hard for the kids to sit for 3.5 hrs for the dinner. We do find the furniture and carpets very beat up. Stairs squeaked as we walked on them. Doors are hard to open and close. Maybe chateaus are that way.... We expected a little more luxury... The staff is really friendly and knows all the guests. All the staff speak excellent English. It is centrally located in Loire. However, you will have to drive 1 hr east to visit some of the chateaus and then 1 hr west to other chateaus. There was a lot of driving time wasted.
