A comfortable hotel next to the Pantheon. The decor is a bit over the top, with greco-roman imagery everywhere, and the location is a bit removed from the center of the left bank. Still, it's a great value for Paris.

Up to September 2004 I had lived in Paris for 3 years and spent nearly as long searching for the perfect hotel to put friends and family in when they visited. Never had much luck finding the perfect match of location, comfort, standards and price until I was due to get married in Paris this summer. I spent a weekend searching nearly every hotel in the 5th and 6th arrondissements, from 3* to 5*. I settled on the Hotel des Grands Hommes because for the price, the location and standards were far superior to any others nearby. I needed rooms for 14 guests over 5 nights and they were very quick to do a deal.
The rooms are nicely decorated and if you go for the superior rooms (on the Pantheon side) you get a little bit more space (which is rare in Paris). Decor is very French - fabric print wallpaper that everyone found 'charming'. Rooms were clean, quiet, with nice bathrooms and well made up.
The staff at the hotel were very good, from the moment I asked for a pre-booking inspection of various rooms until the moment the guests all checked out. All 14 guests had good comments. They arranged the usual services like taxis, dinner recommendations as well as non-standard wedding things like getting a hairdresser brought in, extra umbrellas (rain on your wedding day....) etc.
Location is excellent if you like the 5th and 6th (my favourite area of Paris - I lived there!). Quiet enough not to be in the tourist-trap St Michel area but close enough to everything (literally right beside the Pantheon).
I still go back to Paris on business and, although the business rates are slightly higher mid-week, it is still worth it.
This is a 3* hotel and so it has 3* prices but it is not a typical Paris 3*. OK it's obviously not 5* standard but certainly better than many 4*. If you want to stay in the 5th or 6th and don't want to end up paying €200+ then this is by far the best hotel I can recommend.
Just returned from 4 nights in Paris at this hotel and loved it. The location could not be better, the room was small, but comfortable and the view of the pantheon from our balcony was marvellous. I disagree that the minibar was overpriced -- as minibar prices go, it was very reasonable (4 eur for a bottle of beer, which would sell for about 3.5 at a nearby cafe). Definitely worth going for the 'superior' double to get the view!
We stayed 4 nights at this pretty hotel based on reviews published here. An excellent choce! The location was very convenient but, due to proximity to the Place du Pantheon, there was little traffic noise, especially at night. The superior room had a queen-sized bed with about 2 feet of space on either side. Opposite the foot of the bed was an antique table and chair with a small TV. From the wall coverings and hangings to the furnishings and lamps to the intricate dentil moulding, the room was elegantly decorated. This tasteful approach made the smallness of the room less obvious. The bathroom was largish and similarly tasteful, with coordinated white and lavender ceramic tiling, cross-handled chrome faucets, a tub big enough to swim in, and even a chrome-handled toilet brush. My wife might say the room was "over-the-top," but it never felt uncomfortable or too formal to me and I quite enjoyed the luxuries. The majority of the staff were unusually friendly and accommodating, even charming. They were able to get taxis for us almost as soon as we made the requests. On our last night we requested a cab for 7:45 the next morning, and it was there exactly on time. When we first arrived we had a little trouble with the room key, and the desk clerk immediately RAN up 4 flights of stairs to help.
If I had to say something negative, I'd comment that the rooms were sometimes made up at odd hours, the maid staff ignored our DND sign several times, the minibar was overpriced, one night clerk was less than consistently gracious, and breakfast buffet items were not always replenished.
With a quiet but central location and offering great comfort for a reasonable price, we would definitely return to this charming hotel.

We were so surprised to see our room - the only one with a balcony looking into the face of the Pantheon! Service was excellent, staff very friendly and the location superb. We would definitely stay here again. It made our first time in a Paris a dream come true!
