We booked through a travel agent and upgraded to four stars to try to ensure a good experience. When we checked in, we were greeted by Rita. She was abrupt and not very welcoming. We asked about wi-fi service and she said it was available for a fee. We were disappointed. We went to our room on the second floor and when the elevator opened the entry carpet was severely stained and filthy. We opened the door to our room and the room had huge stains as well. But it was cute and kitschy and the windows opened over the cobble stone street to let in the fresh air. We really wanted to have a good experience so we decided to overlook the first impressions. We went out to explore and came back exhausted. When we pulled back the coverlet we discovered a fecal matter stain on the sheets. We were disgusted but it was late and we really wanted to sleep. So we removed it from the bed and slept on the top sheet. When we saw housekeeping the next day we asked for them to change the sheets. Problem handled, or so we thought. The hotel is far from many of the big destinations and so we were gone for a long time all day. We come back again late and exhausted. When we turn the bed down, the exact same stain is on the sheets. She did not replace them, she simply put the filthy ones back on. I had to remove the sheet once again, this time placing it in the bathroom and in the morning I doused it with copious amounts of water to be more clear about not reusing it. We then did an inspection of all bedding only to find what appeared to be white filmy stains on the coverlet as well.
There was no to-go coffee cups provided in the hotel anywhere. We were fortunate to discover Michael at the desk one night and he advised that wi-fi is indeed free. When I asked him if Rita was new and perhaps unaware of the policy he said no. But she tends to be rude to female guests. That's unfortuante. No one ever asked how our stay was, even at check out. I would have told them but no one seemed the least bit interested. This wouldn't be a 1 star hotel in the states and should be a 2 star at best in Europe. Horrible experience and certainly no where near 4 star pricing. The full size bed was simply two twins pushed together and of very poor quality. We woke with a back ache each day. We met some people that said they were staying near the Bastille area and it was wonderful, even on a budget. DO NOT stay here.
