As a Senior citizen---I keep finding myself in love with Paris until I am looking for a bathroom on
the Champs-Elysees, or anywhere else...And then I wish to be somewhere else. The Villa Pantheon is in a perfect location and I would give it 5 stars for location. A very short walk to Nortre Dame, great shopping in the Latin Quartier, a restaurant, brasserie, or cafe everywhere you look....And we (my granddaughter and I) walked to the Marais, the Champs-Elysees, the Louvre, d'Orsay , and took the Metro every day from a nearby station. Hotel is more British than French.....Elevators worked
Our room was very clean. Excellent water pressure, both tub and shower, and lovely furnishings.
Linens were changed daily and of great quality. Yes there was a safe--which I never figured out, and there was wi-fi, which I certainly appreciated and used. Bar and lobby area are small and not used much by tourists. The bar area does not have a designated attendant. If the front desk is not busy, they will come and serve you.....???It was busy when I was there, and so I never sat down and had a glass of wine or other......
I stayed for 9 nights---7 with a tour group and 2 as an extension. Here are my problems----. A young man at the front desk was incredibly helpful, kind, spoke perfect English, etc. Similarly, a young woman during the day was also kind, cheerful, great English, etc. But the elderly gentleman either
growled or said NO. After about 3 or 4 days, I never stopped at the desk if he was there. I am sure that it is possible that his understanding of English was poor---and could explain the problem.
Breakfast---very uneven. Terrific a few days. Then----I would arrive---and there were NO vacant tables, almost NO food, and NO silverware. Perhaps on those days---there was only one person working. Food??? there was always scrambled eggs in a chafing dish---sometimes cold, and sometimes hot. Breads, cold ham, sweet cereals, and some fruit. Bananas were there between about 7 and 7:30----and then it was apples and oranges. On the bad days---and there were more than one----Not TERRIBLE---but at a daily price of 15 Euros----Not good value. The restaurant next door had an excellent breakfast for 10 Euros---and there were waiters and food was fresh cooked.
Lastly----at the end of my day---sometimes 10 or 11 pm--I had to go down to the front desk and fetch some towels---actually only 3 times in 9 nights.---And one night---I made a trip downstairs for toilet paper.
If this was a cheap hotel, I would not mention these inconveniences---but the rates are variable. Not cheap by US standards. My two extra nights ---not included with my tour group---but booked through the tour company---were about $250 per night. The sign on the hotel door outside had my room listed at 460 Euros per night.....A smaller room at 360 Euros, and a "suite" at 560 Euros. I cannot say whether or not anyone paid those prices.
Yes, I would probably return to this hotel--but I also might try another one. The Hotel Pantheon nearby look lovely---and the lobby was much more pleasing. I did not inquire the rates....And as everyone knows, Paris is expensive....Just as an aside----I paid 18 Euros for 2 cappuchinos on the
Champs-Elysses----so I could use the bathroom. That is about $25 U.S. Part of my confliction in Paris.
