This hotel is not bad in the whole, be aware of the fact that the owners and the staff know very well that rooms 101 and 102 are A REAL CHEAT by themselves. If you think that these two rooms are sold at at the same price as the others, arranging a guest in one of them is - practically - a fraud. So, I hope this review will help future guests and contribute to convince the owners to stop selling rooms 101 and 102 as normal rooms, because it is really OUTRAGEOUS!
The story: we (a colleague of mine and I), going to Paris for work, chose this hotel for the convenient position , the relative good price (if you can define good a price of 160 euros per night per single room...,anyhow cheaper than other central hotels) and the reviews. We made the reservations 10 days before for two single roooms and 3 nights stay. Nobody advised us before leaving. When we arrived (it was Wednesday), the lady at the reception told us that our two rooms (101 and 102) were adjacient to the breakfast room and so we could be disturbed by some noise in the morning....looking at our faces she added "well, but you won't be disturbed in the early morning (7 AM) because guests come later: and in any case, there is no other available room tonight, but if you do not like the arrangement we'll be able to change your rooms the day after". We had to wake up at 7 AM, so we did not complain. Big mistake. Apart from the fact that walls are very thin and the lady preparing the breakfast in the morning starts making a lot of noise around 6.20 AM, we could not close our eyes before 2-2.30 AM due to the music and heavy rythmic stomps coming from the cafè bar "Le chat Noir" below us. Add to this the screams coming from the road (guests of the café that were leaving it), and you get a lethal combination for a filthy night, especially in room 102 that is exactly above the cafè, in the corner between Boulevard de Clichy and Rue Coustou (watch the image in streetwiew and you'll understand). In addition to that, both rooms have a bath tub with shower but there is neither a glass nor a curtain; the removable shower is placed below you head, so you never have noth hands free when showering. The day after we asked to change, were moved to 2 rooms at the 4th floor where we could sleep peacefully. When the same lady of the arrival day asked us smiling (!!) if the new rooms were better, we answered politely just because we were in a hurry but I would had liked so much to put her head in a pot filled with hot oil for at least a couple of minutes.
For the rest, rooms are clean, breakfast is ok, wifi is ok, bathrooms are not ok: very small and "mobile" sinks (you cannot wash your face or body without splashing and spattering water everywhere), terrible light (you cannot see well what you're really doing while shaving), no soap holder in the showers (yes, if you do not want to always keep the soap in your hands while showering, you have to place it at ground while water flows...). But this is what you typically get when the hotel pretends to be a popular "design hotel": in this case, nice black cats everywhere but no functionality for real life.
