Faubourg 216 - 224 is a small hotel, located near Gare du Nord. It is not a premium location in Paris, but nevertheless the proximity to Gare du Nord and having Montmartre not too far may be an option for some travelers. There are a lot of Indian restaurants close by, so you if you like tandooris, currys and byrianis, as I do, you are well served of dining options.
Concerning the hotel itself, there are some positive points. The rooms were refurbished recently and feature new furniture, a fridge and a good LCD screen. The breakfast was not fantastic, but it was acceptable. The common areas in the ground floor were also recently refurbished and have a decent appearance.
Unhappily, the negative points outweigh the positive ones. The lift is tiny and it is difficult to accommodate one person plus one bag. The bathroom is too narrow and not confortable, and the sliding door (at least in my room) was not fully functional. Not being able to close the bathroom door was a major inconvenience. There are no shelves or drawers in the room (only some hangers), so you must keep most of your belongings in the bag. The wifi access is too complex, requiring a long registration process which has to be repeated daily. Moreover the wireless access was unavailable for some periods during my stay.
Last but not least, the staff is friendly, but not too efficient. The check in process was too slow. When I asked to print the boarding pass there was no paper (I got the boarding card printed on the reverse of some used sheet), and when I tried to reserve a Taxi to the airport one day in advance there was an attempt to redirect the request to some "special shuttle service" that was expensive and had an inconvenient schedule, with the justification that it was difficult to get taxis in the morning. I gave up from the advanced reservation and I called a taxi the next morning without any delay. I got the feeling (may be unfair) that the shuttle suggestion was a little bit biased, to say the least.
In short, I will look at some other options next time...
