Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in the ideal location for exploring the city – you really couldn’t ask for a better spot. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and attentive, and switched between French and English at ease. As my wife and I were celebrating our first trip away without kids since before they were born, we wanted the trip to be special. As an SPG Platinum, I used suite night upgrade certificates to ensure an upgrade, and then sent an email to the reservations alias ahead of time notifying them of our situation. Namely, I asked for an early check-in (10am) and for the possibility of being upgraded to an Eiffel Tower view suite. We had read that the view was tremendous, and were eager to enjoy it.
Upon checking in, we were not given a view suite, as there were none available (we happened to be visiting during the week of the French Open), but we were shown to a very nice Prestige Suite promptly upon arrival. A few hours later we found fruit and water in our room, as well as a welcome note from one of the hotel’s assistant managers.
I wrote an email to the assistant manager and requested that we be moved to an Eiffel Tower view suite if one came available. A very nice manager named Christa wrote back and told us we could move to a view suite for the last two nights of our five night stay, if we were willing to pay 60 Euro or 6,000 Starpoints per night for the additional upgrade. While I normally would have been frustrated to use both upgrade certificates and Starpoints, I felt that it was worth it. It helped that when we did go downstairs to make the transition, the front desk staff saw it was me and immediately sent for Christa, who wanted to introduce herself and shake our hands. The personal touch and the many smiles made me feel like an appreciated guest, which is what one always hopes for when being so loyal to a certain brand.
The view was worth it. If you ever have the opportunity to stay in a corner suite on the 5th floor of this hotel, facing the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, make sure you take advantage of it! We had four small balconies from our room, including two with small tables and chairs. We enjoyed mornings and late nights on the balcony, including our last night when hotel manager had sent a bottle of wine to our room.
My wife spent a day at the spa and raved about it. We ate breakfast every morning in the restaurant using the Platinum welcome gift, an incredible value when you consider that the charge per person for the continental breakfast buffet is 29 Euro.
I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Paris, especially if you can get an Eiffel Tower view room. While the building is a bit old, there’s something to be said for that in a city with as much history as Paris.
Room 5036 is probably the best room in the hotel - a corner suite with views of the Louvre and the E...
