We had heard great reviews of Le Bistrot du Peintre and decided to go on Valentine's night, really looking forward to the evening. We got there and were put at a table for four, immediately a couple were put beside us with no more than two inches between us and them. The waiter came, very charming, told us the appetizer we asked about was boiled egg, salmon and tomatoes, it came as scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and tomatoes, not what we were expecting at all, I don't like scrambled eggs so didn't eat it my husband did was not enthusiastic about it. Our friends had tarte tatin and enjoyed it. We asked the waiter about the lamb that was one of the specials, he said it was a thick slice of lamb and potato crocquettes. Sounded lovely. When it came it was inedible, grizzley and hardly any meat just grizzle, three of us had ordered this so unfortunately we could not eat it. The fourth person in our party had ordered steak tartare and enjoyed it very much. We did not complain as it was nearly impossible to get help from the waiters, they were busy so we left our plates pretty much untouched. When they were removed from the table we were not asked why we had not touched our meal. Our friends ordered cheese which was fine and a dessert which they said was nice. My husband and I ordred cappocinos where were lovely. It was a disappointing night, the decor was very nice. All in all tables much too close unless you want to know everything about the people next to you. Food very so so. Wine fine.
