We stayed here on Friday 20 July 2012 and had originally booked for two nights. The weather was gorgeous outside so nothing to complain about there! However when we got into our room, we discovered that the air conditioning wasn't working. The key to open the window was missing so we were stuck in a red-hot room (and I mean HOT!). The receptionist (while polite) told us that there was nothing she could do until after the weekend. Although this was clearly an ongoing problem as she had known about it when we told her, so it could have been sorted out in the week when the air conditioning engineers were working. We were not offered another room, only a shrug of the shoulders. We decided it was not an option to stay a second night (we were not offered another room) and checked out. However at this moment the receptionist was astonished that we would want to leave early and only then said that there might be another room available for our second night. All a little too late.
We had driven for 5 hours to get to this stop over and had another 8 hour journey ahead of us. We have always used Campaniles because, although basic, they offer you a place to have a good sleep at a reasonable price when you have long distances (involving early starts) to cover to get to your destination. This was the most expensive campanile I have ever stayed at and by far the most disappointing with poor standard fittings ( unless we really had the worse room the hotel offers, I can't understand the previous comments about the standard of accommodation, the sealant in our bathroom was only half finished and only one bedside light worked!) staff and accommodation. If this is the new generation of Campaniles then it is a very bad direction that the company is taking.
If you are driving up to Calais from France, my advice would be to cover the extra miles and get to Limoges Campanile where the service and accommodating attitude of the staff is everything you expect from a campanile (and at a two thirds of the price!!)
