The Mercure Royal is a business hotel that was fine for our vacation stop in Limoges. Be sure you get a map or directions if you're driving because it is located facing the large Plaza Repubilique Square but on a dead end street. There is free parking right on the street in front.

The location is great, overlooking the fountain and the Plaza, and easy walking distance to numerous shops, large department stores, cafes, restaurants, etc.

The room was large and confortable. It even had a balcony overlooking the plaza. Fortunately the patio doors and windows had retractable electric shutters to keep out the light and noise at night.

Nothing special - a typical business hotel - but fine for an evening.

We have just had a very nice and relaxing weekend in Limoges the hotel was very good and comfortable, dark and quite when the shutters were down ( you need a wake up call). The room was a Superiour room on the front with a balcony over looking the town square It was very handy for the shops and resturants.

If you have a need to stay in the center of Limoges (it's not the sort of place you would take a family holiday or a honeymoon), you will be quite comfortable in this hotel. It has a more "American" feel to it. A place for small seminars and meetings, a business hotel. Everything was clean and comfortable, the front desk personnel pleasant and efficient. We had a comfortable "superior" double with balcony overlooking the Place Republique. We asked for a no smoking room but none was available. Still, the room was not too malodorous. There was a jazz festival on in Limoges at the time and most hotels were fully booked, so we felt lucky to get this.

If good coffee means a lot to you, you would be better off going next door to the café for breakfast and skipping the 12 euro unexceptional buffet breakfast with awful coffee.

Right in the center of this largish French town reknown for its porcelain. The hotel situated in a one way system! follow the signs . Hotel does not have parking but we were traveling in Feb. and had no trouble finding street parking. Receptionist were bi-lingual and smiled!. Room and bathroom were a good size and very clean. Several different restaurants within walking distance.
A good overnight stop.

Stayed for 2 nights in a superior room at the front of the hotel with a large balcony overlooking the Place de la Resistance. Having hired a car at Limoges airport (very quick and easy process) we drove into Limoges with the aid of a GPS which certainly made it easier to locate the Hotel. There is a massive carpark underneath the Place de la Resistance with direct access into the Hotel lobby - and as a previous reveiwer has noted the car park is closed on a Sunday so the only way out is via the Hotel, all the other entrances to the car park being firmly locked.
The Hotel is clean and bright and the room was large and airy. The mini bar was only half full but other than that I have no complaints. Breakfast was served in a dining room adjacent to the lobby and there was a large selection of cereals, breads, cheeses, meats etc to choose from. Regrettably the scrambled egg on offer was the usual overcooked hotel variety but that apart everything was fresh and the staff made sure stocks were constantly replenished.
The Hotel is very well situated and within an easy walk of the older more attractive part of town and Limoges itself is also a convenient centre for touring the surrounding countryside.
Surprisingly we found that that there was not as much English speaking as we had expected, with even the Hotel receptionists having only a rudimentary grasp of English. The food in the local restaurants we also found to be very French with little obvious concession to the tastes of the English tourists. I do not say that as a critisism of Limoges, indeed quite the opposite - I just make the point that you may have to try a little harder to speak the language and to be more adventurous in youtr eating habits.
There does not seem to be a huge amount of choice when it comes to accommodation in Limoges but the Royal Limousin was a pleasant and relaxing place to stay for a couple of days.
The photograph shows the view from the balcony across the Place on a somewhat rainy August day. It is a shame that the Monoprix dominates the square but it does look a whole lot better when the sun is shining!
