Stayed for 2 nights in a superior room at the front of the hotel with a large balcony overlooking the Place de la Resistance. Having hired a car at Limoges airport (very quick and easy process) we drove into Limoges with the aid of a GPS which certainly made it easier to locate the Hotel. There is a massive carpark underneath the Place de la Resistance with direct access into the Hotel lobby - and as a previous reveiwer has noted the car park is closed on a Sunday so the only way out is via the Hotel, all the other entrances to the car park being firmly locked.
The Hotel is clean and bright and the room was large and airy. The mini bar was only half full but other than that I have no complaints. Breakfast was served in a dining room adjacent to the lobby and there was a large selection of cereals, breads, cheeses, meats etc to choose from. Regrettably the scrambled egg on offer was the usual overcooked hotel variety but that apart everything was fresh and the staff made sure stocks were constantly replenished.
The Hotel is very well situated and within an easy walk of the older more attractive part of town and Limoges itself is also a convenient centre for touring the surrounding countryside.
Surprisingly we found that that there was not as much English speaking as we had expected, with even the Hotel receptionists having only a rudimentary grasp of English. The food in the local restaurants we also found to be very French with little obvious concession to the tastes of the English tourists. I do not say that as a critisism of Limoges, indeed quite the opposite - I just make the point that you may have to try a little harder to speak the language and to be more adventurous in youtr eating habits.
There does not seem to be a huge amount of choice when it comes to accommodation in Limoges but the Royal Limousin was a pleasant and relaxing place to stay for a couple of days.
The photograph shows the view from the balcony across the Place on a somewhat rainy August day. It is a shame that the Monoprix dominates the square but it does look a whole lot better when the sun is shining!
