We stayed here on weekend of the 21st July on route to our destination in Poitou-Charentes.
I must give a word of advice, the one-way system into the centre of Rouen is a nightmare and if you don't study the hotel directions or have a satellite navigation system, you will be extremely lucky to find the hotel!! Even with our sat. nav. we missed the turning down the lane to the hotel and had to drive right around the system again and on a busy Saturday afternoon the traffic was congested to say the least!
Also, try to get to the hotel reasonably early as the underground parking is a bit tricky and the spaces fill up quickly which will leave you with a bit of difficulty manouvering into the narrower spaces which are left.
Also, ensure you ask the reception staff for a code to get out of the car park as they forgot to give it to us and the car in front waiting to get out which is a bit of a pain as you have to go all the way back up to get it!
The hotel itself was everything we have come to expect of the Mercure brand and we were more than happy with the service and the standard of rooms.
Try and get one of the end rooms as they are larger than average (especially if you need a 'put up bed' for a child ,ours was all ready made up in the room when we arrived and also if you're staying longer than 1 night) In these rooms you will have a nice view down the side street to the Cathedral.
We stayed on the second floor in room 229 (but all the end rooms on the floors above are the same) and my parents stayed in 228 next door which was fine for the 2 of them, but a good deal smaller and darker,as we had a big bank of windows with that lovely view to let the light in. The bathrooms are a good size and there are lots of lovely toiletries and soaps for you to use.
The windows are locked in the room and the air conditioning is not really efficient so ask the staff for the key to open them because we wished we had in the morning!
The breakfast at 14 euros is slightly pricey but it is plentiful and lots of variety with scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage which you don't pay extra for. The usual pastries, jams, ham, cheeses and toast and also boiled eggs also if you want.
The hotel is well worth staying in for it's central location for exploring Rouen City which was a complete surprise to us as we had not really intended to stay there and didn't know much about it! I only wish we had more time there as there was so much to see and do!
If you're going out to eat on the weekend, make sure you go relatively early , or get the hotel to book a table somewhere for you,as everywhere got pretty busy after 8 o'clock. They were turning everyone away from the Pizzeria we ate in and most places were the same!
All in all, an enjoyable stay and we would certainly return there in the future.
