This was the cultural week for our holiday, Angers had been recommended to us as had the Chateau and we were not disappointed.
We decided to take the audio guides and what a good decision that was, provided you can ignore the American with the terrible pronounciation. The audio description brought the whole castle to life, pointing out and explaining lots that a walk round the Chateau even with a guide book would have missed.
The models and photos of the Chateau from the beginning to the restoration after the fire are well presented. Some of the points numbered for the audio guide have been changed temporarily due to restoration work which confused us briefly but we managed to muddle through finding the information about the changes later in a flyer we had been given.
It's one of the most interesting castles I have been to over the years, if you don't mind the extra expense the audio guides, at least for any children, will make the visit worthwhile.
Have a crepe at the Creperie Du Chateau before you go in.
