I am surprised this hotel satisfies the stringent Relais and Chateaux standards. The service was disappointing at best. The front desk supposedly arranged for a pick-up for me at the Marseilles airport, which never arrived. The front desk clerk merely shrugged when I arrived and told him the car never materialized (I speak French, so I know he understood me). The next day our room was not cleaned by 4 p.m. when we returned from a day of sightseeing. When I asked the head housekeeper to please send someone to clean the room, she gave me an icy response that the hotel was full and I would just have to wait (not the kind of response I expect when paying over $500 a night). The dining room service is excruciatingly slow. At a typical meal there is only one waiter for the entire dining area. An additional problem was that the air conditioning unit in my sister's room broke and the staff had a cavalier attitude about fixing it. Again, not what one would expect from a four-star Relais and Chateaux hotel. The only bright spot was the beautiful pool. The man in charge of serving drinks and getting towels for guests was very friendly and accommodating.

This is one excellent hotel. Beautiful :guest rooms, dining room, terrace ,pool, gardens and location. Extremely friendly, youthful, energetic, helpful staff. Excellent food. This is an oasis of beauty and luxury a ten minute walk from the Cours Mirabeau.We can't wait to return.

My family stayed at the Villa Gallici for two nights in June of 2004. We loved it. The rooms are gorgeous and the service was impeccable. It is quiet and serene, the food is wonderful and the staff helped us make dinner reservations and car reservations-they were very accomodating. Plus it is less than a 10 minute walk to the center of town. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. It felt like we were visitors in a rich relatives country palace.

For our honeymoon my wife and I went to Paris, Provence and the Riviera and of all the hotels we stayed in this was far and away our favorite place. It is up a hill but that should not keep you from staying here. The Villa Gallici is in a tranquil idyllic setting.
