What really bothered me was the penny-pinching and unaccommodating attitude of the management, which was more irritating than the fact that the room was shabby, small and needed updating (bath was ok and had two sinks). Someone else had mentioned in another review having to pay for every little thing and I wish I had paid attention. It started with getting there. It is quite difficult to find your way to the hotel and we telephoned for help - within minutes the clerk was shouting at us, though I decided she was just excitable. No offer to help with the luggage when we arrived. What really bugged me the most was the hotel's refusal to provide an iron and ironing board, with no explanation. One of the employees whispered to me later that I could probably get it if I paid some Euros, though that was not even offered. It was a weekend and I didn't even have the option of getting the hotel to have my clothes pressed. I have never had this experience before, and it happened no other place on this trip. The charge for breakfast (which we bypassed) was 15 Euros for a continental breakfast - this used to be included with a hotel in France, and although more and more they are charging, this hotel was charging more than other hotels. The wireless internet was lousy - weak service that went off and on. I even brought my computer to the reception area near their office, and it wasn't any better. They said the problem was the thick walls and so I should use it only in the lobby (which also didn't work consistently) , but when I activated my personal mifi gadget, I got service in my room. So the problem is clearly their router, and it wouldn't cost them much at all to improve it. In Arles, I would stay somewhere else. However, I also have to say that although Arles has enough for a full day of sightseeing, I wouldn't actually stay in Arles again. I would stay in St. Remy and just come for the day, which is what we did a few years ago. Not enough in Arles for a two night visit. Oh, and by the way, the art museum is closed for remodeling and won't reopen til sometime in 2012.
