“OK but not a four star and expensive!!”

It's not a bad hotel just not four star. Clean, safe, very close to all the shops/restaurants and the beach. Staff were helpful and professional and the breakfast was good with plenty to choose from. There was nothing outstanding but it is a perfectly decent place to stay.

The price of things is generally expensive around the area and I was pretty amazed to have to pay for use of the hotel swimming pool. It is 10 euros for half day (2pm until 6pm) and 15 for a full day from 9am. In the price you get a towel and a small bottle of water. The prices are exactly the same for use of the hotel's private beach except no water included there and if you want the sun loungers at the very front it is an extra 2 euros!!

“Generally fine hotel”

This modern hotel is built around a large atrium with pleasant public areas. The staff are friendly and helpful and speak good English. Although a tourist hotel, it's also used for conferences so you may encounter lots of people in suits and name badges milling around during the day. Outside is a large swimming pool with loungers (we were told they charge for lounger use in high summer) and there is also a little-used small indoor swimming pool and sauna tucked away in the corner of the basement. The rooms are comfortable enough, though the recent refurbishment using trendy "distressed" wallpaper may not be to everyone's taste. We encountered some niggling maintenance problems involving inadequate air conditioning and bath plug mechanisms that didn't work, so I suggest you check these things before unpacking. Breakfast is a buffet in a large and pleasant room (refurbished since our last visit), spilling outside in good weather. For the evening there are plenty of good restaurants within about five minutes' walk: I recommend La Bodega, La Bamba, Lou Can-Can and the slightly more expensive Le Perroquet. If you're arriving at Nice Airport you can take a taxi for €70-90 or bus no. 200 from the small bus station outside the arrivals hall for €1.30 - you choose.

“Could do better”

We stayed last week over the film festival and had mixed feelings about it:

Good points: the swimming pools are lovely, location good and reception staff were very helpful.

Bad points: Rooms really shabby and housekeeping bizarre: one day our rooms weren't made up at all, the other day we were woken up at 8am! My friend's camera also went missing from the room and housekeeper was very rude when we went back to look for it again which left us quite upset.

Not sure how it got a 4* rating and wouldn't choose to stay here again.

“Cannot understand the bad reviews”

I have just returned from a stay at Hotel Ambassadeur, which I booked at the last minute being the only accommodation available for the week of the Cannes Film Festival. I read the reviews on this website after booking it and was terrified but I hoped for the best. Well I can honestly say I was delighted with my stay. The hotel itself is light and airy with very friendly staff. I paid 110 Euro per night as a solo traveller for a large double room with balcony during a very expensive week. The paintwork in the rooms could do with a touch up but other than that I had no complaints. All facilities worked well and the two swimming pools were delightful. I will definitely return.

“Very Dissapointed”

Ambassadeur Hotel

22 Apr 2007

We stayed at the hotel with a tour sponsored group-Collette Tours. My only complaint was the bathroom, which was a disaster. The commode seat was broken, the shower did not work properly and the water did not drain from the sink. I could not understand why these problems had not been resolved before the room was booked for "anybody". We did not report the problems because of the inconvience of having maintenance in the room when we were not there, but did when we checked out.
The service was very good and the breakfast buffet was excellent. I am assuming housekeeping or the previous guests had reported the terrible conditions of the bathroom, and confronting them as soon as we arrived in out room tainted the way we felt about the remainder of our stay.
Overall, I would give the hotel a rating of 2+.
