“Good, but could do better”

This hotel has a very good location, half way between train station and sea. Although on a wide street, there didn't seem too much traffic noise, and a room at the back was very quiet. The Scicilian restaurant attached to the front of the hotel serves excellent food!

The room was on the small side, but perfectly fine for 4 nights, and the bathroom was much larger than I expect in a French hotel. What let the room down was that the 'look' of the room was obviously far more important than the practicalities of staying in it. For example, large bathroom, yet apart from a small towel rail big enough only for a hand-towel, there was no-where to dry wet towels. Is it unusual for guests to want to shower before going out in the evening and again when they wake up?! On a similar theme, the room had only a tiny wardrobe, with only 5 hangers and barely enough drop space for a shirt to hang - there were no drawers and only 2 small shelves. Again, it all looks good, but how do they expect guests to actually use the room. (As a side issue, there would have been much more space if the majority of the wardrobe area wasn't taken up with 2 large locked cupboards - haven't a clue what was in them as the minibar was below.)

The staff were quite helpful, and at €75 per night (it was off-season) we can't complian about value for money. Didn't try breakfast - looked expensive when there are lots of small coffee/pastry shops within walking distance.

On the whole, I would be happy to stay at the hotel again, but hopefully they'll give some attention to the small details that would make a stay better.

“Do not book here!”

La Malmaison Hotel

27 Mar 2008

I booked this Hotel in January for a 3 night stay In March.
For what seemed a 'good deal' , on arriving the receptionist informed us that the hotel was experiencing plumbing problems, and that they had booked us into another hotel (Victoria). Quite simply they broke the golden rule, to add insult to injury i was informed by a member of staff at Villa Victoria , that it was not uncommon . In my opinion la malmaison sells rooms in advance cheaply ,then come nearer the time if they can sell your room at a better rate they bounce you anywhere they can..
Call me suspicious if you like!
Quite simply not worth the risk!

“Good, but not good enough”

La Malmaison Hotel

11 Mar 2008

The location of the hotel is good - close to everything important in the city. The rooms are clean and recently renovated, although too small and a bit boring. The staff is very nice and helpful. We did not try the breakfast - it was much nicer - and cheaper - to have it at one of the many cafes in the neighborhood.

The really negative thing about the room was the bed - it was very hard, and if you don't prefer that, you simply can't get a good nights sleep in this hotel.

The lobby and the bar area were nice, but not very inviting. Right beside the hotel, there is a nice Italian restaurant, worht visiting.

Even though the hotel wasn't very expensive, we believe that we could have found a better one at the same price, so the conclusion is that we would not choose to stay here again.

“Great Hotel”

La Malmaison Hotel

10 Feb 2008

Great hotel. Only that we need to carry our luggage up the stairs. There are not many steps though. Staff is friendly and helpful. The room is very big and clean. Reasonable walking distance from the main train/bus station. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Nice.
