“Great experience”

Agata Hotel Nice

This place was wonderful. The staff is present and helpful 24/7.
True, it is not on the promenade or immediately accessable to the beach, but it's not that far, either (10 minute walk). The good thing about being slightly removed from the promenade is that the Agata is QUIET and is near modestly priced shops to buy bakery goods and water/soft drinks. An added bonus....the bus to Villefranche, Cap Ferrat, and Monaco stops right in front of the hotel. The same bus line in the opposite direction (the stop is right across the street) goes to the Gare Routiere (main bus stop) where you can pick up any bus you wish. People reading other reviews need to remember that Europe is not the US-- hotels don't have enormous rooms and baths bigger than you have at home. The Agata is clean and comfortable. It's probably not the best choice for seniors or families with kids who'll be walking (rather than riding in a stroller) since it is a bit of a walk from the main tourist area, but I thought it was great, and I would gladly stay there again.

“Oh Dear - bad choice”

Agata Hotel Nice

Stink of stale urine in toilet & floor (though they did clean it for us when we asked). Bathroom very substandard. Shabby & cramped room, corridors & lifts. Wrong side of port from main centre & tourist area. Wouldn't recommend walking back after dark. No hotel restaurant & none nearby. Only for the desperate really.

“Fine if you want to be near the port”

Some of the reviews on here complain that the hotel is not in the centre of Nice. That's true, it's near the port, so if you want to stay in the centre of Nice do some research and book a hotel there. I was taking an early ferry to Corsica so booked this hotel for it's excellent location to the port. Also worth noting is that the port area is very pretty with lots of cafes, bars and restaurants. The hotel lobby and reception are clean and well kept with a good selection of tourist information leaflets and a vending machine for those late night snacks and drinks. The room was small with one double bed, a small balcony (side sea view), a television, and air-conditioning. The bathroom was also small with a bath, shower, bidet and basin but no shower curtain. The room was clean but a bit 'tired'. The hotel does serve breakfast but my ferry was leaving very early so I did not have time so cannot comment on this. The port is less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel and the centre of Nice is about a mile or two away. This hotel is fine if you need to be near the port or just want a base to explore the whole of the Nice area. The bus to Monaco stops a few yards from the hotel.

This hotel is listed as a block form the Sea, however the access is private with no entry. It is on the outskirts of Nice on the road leading out of the city, so lots of traffic. The rooms are typical for Europe, small & clean. A short walk down the hill and you find a few good restaurants. You need a taxi to go everwhere. The city center is not within walking distance. Also, interent services were advertised, but not available. Breakfast is not included and the cost is 9 euro per day. The staff is friendly and courteous. Not all of them speak English.

“Do Not Stay Here”

Agata Hotel Nice

I would not recommend this hotel. First of all, it is way too far to the city centre, they advertised "close to the ocean" it is, however, you cannot use the ocean at this location....they are closed to the pier where there are hundreds of boats and yachts moored. It is not a tourist beach location at all.

We had booked for (3) nights and decided to just accept the location and deal with getting into town later. The room itself could have been cleaner and used a makeover. Anyway, we unpacked and turned the air on as it was a humid sweltering day. Our air didn't work so we went down stairs and told the man at the desk that our air unit needed to be checked. Since he was going to send somebody right up, we decided to take a walk and look around. There was nothing to look at except the pier...the stores were boarded up, restaurants were closed down, and the streets were littered with dog poop! We decided that we were going to stay one night and then move into the city centre.

After arriving back at the hotel we were informed that the technician was up in our room working on the air unit. We went up and he told us that the air didn't work!!! Ha, no kidding! He then told us that it wasn't going to work because he could not fix it. I packed our things we went downstairs told the man at the desk that we could not stay in a non-air conditioned room. They refunded our money and called us a taxi and we went to the city centre and stayed at the Nouvel Hotel which was great and the location couldn't have been better!

Thank goodness the air unit didn't work! It really made our trip much more enjoyable.
