The hotel is located just out of the town centre, we followed the GPS coordinates provided by IBis and had to take care not to travel down one way streets the wrong way in our attempt to reach the hotel.
Once there we paid for onsite parking (9 Euro). The car park is secure but it is right underneath the hotel and the designers have really tried to maximise the number of spaces. It’s really cave like and in a large car it’s a real challenge to park without marking your paintwork in the extremely tight/restricted headroom spaces.
Having read reviews about the hotel we asked for a top floor room on the quiet side of the hotel. Our room overlooked the courtyard at the back which was fine. Using the noisy lift I was also glad that our room wasn’t located near to it.
Our room was large and fitted with laminate flooring. It was very clean and the air con worked well. The bed was clean, big and comfortable. The free WiFi was fast but unless you ask you are limited to internet access for one device. Modern couples and families will have multiple devices requiring internet access so make sure that you ask for individual access codes.
We started to enjoy a breakfast on the quiet courtyard terrace which our room overlooked. It was pleasant but then marred by the fact that smokers used it as they couldn’t smoke inside. At times, with no breeze, the smoke got unpleasant and we had to retreat inside to finish our food. The breakfast menu was reasonably varied, most tastes being accommodated in some way.
We found it frustrating that there was often only 1 member of staff at reception which meant that there were queues of people checking in/out etc. This is a busy hotel and would benefit from more staff at peak times. Having said that when you did get service the staff proved to be very helpful.
The main town centre is about ½ hour brisk walk and its full of bars and on street restaurants. The walk back to the hotel after dark may feel intimidating for some as some of the streets are poorly lit.
Overall great value and we would recommend the hotel as long as you are careful about the location of the room that you are allocated when you check in.
When checking in ask for a room that faces the rear courtyard and is well away from the lifts.
