We booked all the hotels for our recent trip to Europe based on TA recommendations. The Massenet was the only one I was unsure about going in.....the reviews were positive, but the property looked run down from the available pictures. Turns out the pics do not do it justice and our fellow TA'ers did not fail us. It is brighter, more modern, cleaner and nicer than I expected. The room we had was by far the largest of any place we stayed the entire trip. Definitely on the minimal side as far as furnishings, but the carpet and paint look recent and the bathroom was bright and spotless. The bed was comfortable and we never heard anything from the adjacent rooms. The breakfast is skimpy....probably not worth the 8 Euros extra except for the convenience. All the people we dealt with at the front desk were great.

The real advantage of the Massenet is location: although there is no view, it's a block from the beach and just off the pedestrian mall loaded with shops, restaurants and bars. For most people, the hotel is probably too far to walk to from the train station with luggage; cab was about 15 Euros. However, we did walk to and from the station for a day trip to Monaco (highly recommended and only 6 Euro round trip), and it was interesting to see what Nice looks like away from the beaches (about 25 minute walk from hotel).

The Massenet is not a luxury hotel and isn't trying to be one, but it's a good value considering the ideal location and quality of the rooms. I would stay there again and can definitely recommend it.

Booked here as a result of reading other reviews. As promised spotlessly clean room, good bathroom and comfortable bed, absolute value for money.
The staff were pleasant and helpful, my bedside light didn't work, I reported it and when I came back after a short stroll, it was fixed.
The breakfast was adequate with a choice of hot drinks.
The view was poor, but I much prefer a quiet nights sleep which we had every night of our 7 night stay. The hotel is so central to everything and the tourist information centre is just round the corner.
The only thing I didn't like was that the room had a smell of stale cigarettes.

Stayed at The Massenet (September) for the second time this year, this time for three nights. We were so impressed the first time (April) we immediately booked again on our return home.

As everyone seems to agree on this website the location is perfect, the rooms are large and well-equipped and the staff are charming.

We will be back in 2008!

My family and I traveled to Nice this summer and we stayed here. We actually canceled other reservations at a hotel directly on the beach and ended up staying at this hotel. It was cheaper, the room was very clean and large, the hotel staff was extremely helpful, and the bathroom was remodeled and new. We asked for a cot for our daughter. The public and pay beaches are only a block away and it is very convienient to everything in Nice.

There were only 2 very minor things I would care to note. I wouldn't do the breakfast there because one block over are some great restaurants and breakfast is much cheaper and better at the restaurants. Also the bed was large but not the best although it was not horrible. I would definitely stay there again.

Just returned from two nights in Nice and we were most impressed with the Massenet hotel. Its is very well located close to the beach, shops and restaurants. Our room was clean and large. Parking beneath the hotel was perfect although our navigation found it challenging locating the hotel (you can only access via the promenade travelling in the direction of Marseille). We will definitely stay here again.
