We stayed at the Vergers de St. Paul for two nights over Easter weekend. For 150 euros/night, we got a tiny room with a balcony facing the swimming pool. The room was nicely appointed but for 150 euros I expected some more in terms of either amenities or service. I have stayed in the south of France many times and I can attest that you can get much better service, food, and amenities for the same price or less. The check-in process was brusque and efficient and throughout our stay, interaction with the front desk felt hurried and rushed. Once when we asked them to cancel a restaurant reservation for us, they told us that we might as well do it ourselves since there were 'no free calls' and we had a phone in our room.

As another reviewer mentioned, the cups in the bathroom were plastic, which gave it a cheap overall feel. The bathroom had a bathtub, which was nice, but some parts of the bathroom were a bit chipped and frayed and the lights were very very dim. To be fair they fixed this the following day when the housekeeper noticed how dark it was. The breakfast for 14 euros was overpriced (I checked this price against the 6 other hotels in the town -- most were between 7-12 euros and probably had better food), and it felt pretty welcome-less (which, again was only a disappointment to me after having had much warmer bed and breakfast experiences in the south of France). It consisted of coffee or tea, ham, cheese, a natural yogurt, bread/croissant that wasn't top quality, and some fruit (nothing exciting - an apple, a banana, and an orange). It did not reflect local products at all, which is really a pity since one of the advantages of the region is its rich tradition of local foods and produce.

For those wondering what kind of standard I am comparing this hotel to, visit the website of a bed and breakfast called in Aix-en-Provence called "La Brillane" (http://www.labrillane.com) -- I stayed here in Autumn 2006 and for the same price, this was truly an outstanding experience in terms of hospitality, breakfast quality, room quality, etc. The host made all reservations for us, and always stayed to chat with us after bringing us a sumptuously large breakfast with FRESH buttery croissants. I guess these details really make the difference between an average stay and an unforgettable one.

Overall, I suppose I can't really fault the Vergers de St. Paul too much, it pretty much hits the average mark all around. But I couldn't help wondering if the nearby B&B or hotel guests were having a better and warmer experience than I was.

My wife and I spent 3 wonderful days at Les Vergers de Saint Paul.The warm welcome and friendly hospitality made us feel at home. Our beautiful spacious renovated suite exuded refinement and comfort. Anxious to return.

A snap cold spell failed to dampen the warmth and hospitality extended to my wifeand I and two accompanying friends by the owner and staff of this wonderful hotel located on the hill just below the picturesque village of St. Paul de Vence.

The suites offered to us were beautifully furnished and decorated. Even in the off-season, room service was available for breakfast. The owner and his wife also graciously directed us to some excellent restaurants and tourist sights in the area .

The swimming pool and lounge chairs were very inviting, but not when the temperature dips to 5 degrees centigrade. The magnificent view of the Maritime Alps and the walls of the village more than made up for this disappointment.

We truly enjoyed our quiet stay at this Cote d'Azur gem.

We have just returned from three wonderful days in St Paul de Vence where we stayed at this hotel. I cannot imagine what the previous reviewer was complaining about - the owner was charming and most helpful at all times, as were all the staff. The hotel was beautifully run and spotlessly clean. The rooms had all been recently completely renovated, overseen by an architect from Paris - they were so artistic, with beautiful clean lines - white paint, black marble round the basin and bath etc., modern art on the walls, box trees in planters on the terrace and the air con etc. was the best I have ever experienced. The gardens were beautifully maintained.

We were tired and it was perfect - we had breakfast on our sunny terrace and lazed round the beautiful pool which was never crowded even though the hotel was full. In the evenings we went into Nice or Cannes to have dinner.

I cannot recommend this gem of a hotel too highly if you want a blissfully peaceful break.
