We spent 4 of our 7 nights holiday to the South of France at Le Hameau in St Paul De Vence. We booked directly with the hotel through email and they even sent us pictures of which rooms were available so you could make your own choice! The hotel is beautiful with well kept gardens and pool area with views of St Paul and Nice. Our room was room 10. Very clean with traditional decor throughout. Staff very friendly and attentive. Breakfast is a little pricey for continental but you are only a five minute walk from the centre of St Paul. St Paul has beautiful cobbled streets with a mixture of shops and restaurants. Its a great base to explore nearby places such as Nice, Monte Carlo/Monaco, Antibes and Cannes. However it is not a place that stays open late and it can get a little quiet after 10pm! . Le Hameau does not have a bar so we took a bottle of wine back with us from the local shop to enjoy on the terrace (by ourselves)! Le Hameau is a beautiful, quiet retreat for those wanting time to relax and enjoy a well earned rest and is not for those wanting to party.

I stayed with my partner at Le Hameau for six nights in July 2007, and found this to be one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. In fact, it's so lovely I really wanted to keep it to myself (but that's not in the spirit of Trip Advisor!) The hotel is situated on a main road about ten minutes walk from the hilltop village of Saint-Paul, although it is very quiet with no traffic noise. You enter the hotel through an arbour of grape vines and passion flowers and from then onwards, you will be enchanted. Beautiful flowers, lime and orange trees surround you in the well maintained gardens. The 18 rooms are spread throughout several independent small cottages situated around a central swimming pool. All are different and attractively furnished with old Provencal style furniture. Our suite, no 18 was the top floor of a 'cottage' with a large antique king sized bed, small lounge with sofa and a clean well equipped bathroom (only a hand held shower over the bath, but that's the only thing I could fault.) Efficient air conditioning (which was needed in the 95 degree heat) and very clean. We had a gorgeous grapevine covered patio overlooking the pool which was lovely to sit out on at the end of the day. Breakfast is the highlight of the stay - you can eat either on your own patio or the main hotel one, which is delightful. Bowls of fresh melon and strawberries, yoghurt, scarmbled eggs, baskets of croissants and home made orange marmalade! Its expensive at 14 euros per person but worth it just for the setting. Le Hameau does not have a restaurant, but serves snacks such as salads at lunchtime. However, restaurants abound in St Paul and it is very easy to walk in. Le Tilleul Menthe and Le Vieux Moulin are both well recommended. The main square in St Paul has a large petanque court where the locals meet, and its very relaxing to sit with a beer at the bar overlooking this. and then return to your charming hotel. The managers of the hotel are very pleasant and helpful, arranging a hire car for us, and as it is the 40th anniversary of the hotel this year, presented us with a bottle of red as we checked out. All together - delightful , romantic and can't wait to go again!

Plusses:
This hotel was as charming as promised with a gorgeous setting and friendly staff
The hotel was conveniently located next to the walled villiage of “St Paul De Vence” and a 10-minute drive to the walled city of “Vence” – note two different villages to discover for the price of one.
Our room (the least expensive) had an awesome marble-tiled bathroom with a tub big enough for two.
The “infinity” pool was beautiful
Light lunch is served in a lush garden setting by friendly staff, and we saw some people having snacks delivered to the pool as well.
A/C was fine
Free secured parking lot
Free internet terminal in lobby

Minuses:
Our least-expensive room was a little smallish
Breakfast was delicious but cost an additional 15 euros

Tips:
If you’re renting a car, buy or rent a GPS – we don’t think we would have found many hotels, including this one, without one. We used the Garmin Nuvi with the European maps installed and it worked great.

This trip did not disappoint and was truly wonderful. Everything about the area is delicious as the smell of the glorious flowers are every you go.
Le Hameau was exactly as is portrayed in their website. The only thing missing is a bar area which we made up for by taking out own wine in and drinking but I imagine the owners like to keep it quiet which doesnt detract from its appeal whatsoever!
The surrounding areas are completly divine and ignore all those grumblings about too many tourists as we found it very civilised probably because it was not quite high season.
excellently placed for NICE airport and the car hire locating was relatively easy.
We would also thoroughly recommend Josy Jo's in the old town of Le Gagne - wonderful meal. Actually all the food we had was great including the brekkie in Le Hameau.
We are considering heading back there next year as the area is so rich in places to see and restaurants to try.

Le Hameau captures the spirit of relaxation and informal luxury in its charming rooms, private patios, welcoming pool with unimpeded views of the Mediterranean and diverse relaxation spots around the property, which was once a farm. The world of tourist busses and crowds that haunts St. Paul seems blissfully far away, as you enjoy house-made marmalade on croissants with your cafe au lait on the breakfast terrace. The owner and staff are most attentive, offering whatever is needed to make your stay memorable. Many European families return year after year. This is a great spot for exploring Nice and the myriad attractions of the Cote d'Azur. It is our favorite spot in the South of France.
