“Plenty of Sun,but.....”

Le Mas de Pierre Hotel

Well slept, well swam, badly eaten (too expensive for nothing in our plates) ,magnificent views overall and neverending relaxing rebirth thanks to the human qualities and delicate strenght of the Spa's staff.
We 've never had such tremendous massages and cares,we can't find this great general quality in our country.
We were astonished by the gardens, the scents, and the explanations of the friendly gardener.
We highly recomend to have a car, found in the airport arriving in Nice ,(booked on your own at home) to get easily to little places such as vieux mougins or valbonne or le suquet in Cannes and little excellent restaurants in Nice,Villefranche sur Mer by night will always stay in our mind.....st paul is the middle between mountain and seaside,we knew all thes clues speaking with the staff,as far as the concierge seemed to be unable to understand english.
No activities neither kindergarden for children, that's such a shame during a stay either inside or outside.
In June, friends of us came and saw the wine waiter caring the pool deckchairs, the beautician tons of dirty pool towels,
we tried to make a point with the head masters for our stay ,but no one came, strange management.we've had quiet the same experience.

My husband and I stayed at Le Mas de Pierre in late July, 2007 for 3 nights and had an incredible stay. We have stayed in a few Relais & Chateaux hotels and expect a very high standard. The room was furnished in French Provincial style with an Aubisson rug, tester above bed, lovely butter yellow striped curtains and huge flat screen tv. The room was small but cozy and the size did not bother us at all. We had a balcony overlooking the property. The bathroom was excellet with tub and shower and plush towels and robes. My only complaint with the room was that they clean the rooms at odd hours during the day. We both had swedish massages at the spa which were mediocre to poor and lasted 10 minutes shorter than they should have and the masseusse was somewhat offended when I told her to put more pressure on her technique. The pool and cabanas were bliss and although there were a fair amount of families visiting, they were respectiful of the tranquility of the hotel and kept the noise to a minimal level. The food at the hotel was moderate quality (nothing special as Provence should be!) and very over priced for the quality as other reviewers have stated. The hotel offers a free shuttle to St Paul de Vence (a 20 minute scenic walk or 5 min drive). The concierge was happy to recommend and make dinner reservations at other restaurants. The service and management treated us very well and attended our every need. I would definitely return.

“One night stop”

Le Mas de Pierre Hotel

14 Sep 2007

My husband, my 3 year old and I stayed for one night at the end of our hols in the South of France.

It is a beautiful hideaway, with immaculate grounds. We didn't have any problem with the service, in fact they were very attentive. What I did have problem with was the cost of the food!!! On room service a club sandwich was 32 euros... explain that!!! The menu was also fairly limited if you were going to stay there for a while.

I suggest if you stay you also hire a car or get a taxi service sorted to hit the local restaurants.

Overall though, a very relaxing place...

“Beautiful place, but below-average service”

Le Mas de Pierre Hotel

22 Aug 2007

After having been there in July 2005 (a few weeks after the opening), we returned to Le Mas de Pierre this summer.

The hotel remains one the most beautiful property in the region. Located a few kilometers away from Vence, slightly off the beaten track, the place is both quiet and nicely built. The garden is really lovely and the rooms are nicely decorated an of decent size.

As we were pretty disappointed by the service during our first stay (and we had written a kind letter to the management to try helping them to address basis issues), we were pretty confident that the hotel service had improved to match the Relais&Chateau standard. Our belief was quickly mistaken. The service is clearly Le Mas de Pierre's weakest point. There is not point I think of writing another letter.Changing the management and half the staff might be the solution. I am not a picky client, nor someone difficult to please. But when I am paying EUR 450.- per night, I do not want to face the following events:

- dirty glass was served when we ordered a bottle of Evian by the pool (I mean the glass was both sticky and dirty)
- many hair on the bathroom floor and in the bath-tube as we arrived. The mirror had finger prints.
- we are smokers and our ashtrays were not emptied on two occasions when room was cleaned
- one night, as we were returning from dinner, the room door had been left wide open, as the maid apparently forgot to close it. We called reception and the person answering advised us to check if nothing was missing. No apologies and no-one ever asked us on the following days if everything was ok. Considering our time of returning, the door was supposedly opened for at least 2-3 hours.
- In the restaurant, we needed to ask several times (3-4 times) to get an ashtray or a bottle of water during dinner.
- my wife use the fitness place. there were no towell available and no-one dare to come to propose assistance or something to drink.

Nevertheless, I would like to mention the great attention, care and service provided by the concierge. He is really friendly, available and willing to recommend restaurants, book transat on any beach in Juan les Pins and always offered to get the car out of the parking. We really appreciated this person.

The restaurant proposes a rather limited menu, but products are fresh, presentation is inventive and overall the food experience is really satisfactory. The breakfast buffet is also very nice and offers a wide variety of choice.

To conclude: great location, friendly concierge, bad management, below-average service.

“Beautiful hotel but watch out for the extra costs and the kids”

Le Mas de Pierre Hotel

I think for a relais and chateaux this would be ranked normal - we have stayed at many R&C and in terms of location, views and the overall look of the hotel holds up against the competition. But the costs they charge for food are outrageous as they hold you captive to the fact that you cannot just walk to town. Plus the food quality does NOT justify the expense in the least, to charge almost euro 30 for a tiny salad with a sliver of tuna is ridiculous. In the evening the restaurant is in a beautiful setting but again, the food misses the mark. They charge same prices as Michelin star restaurants and it is not justified. In addition this is like a kids camp, do not come here looking for a relaxing romantic lounging session by the pool - there are kids screaming and running everywhere. Perhaps if you come here outside the school holidays it would be a better option for a couple. The manager did apologise for a few service hiccups and offered us two glasses of champagne which was very nice but overall we won't be returning.
