While we were ported at Villefranche, France this summer, I made an amazing discovery. There is lovely little chapel near the harbor called Chapelle Saint-Pierre which was restored and painted by Jean Cocteau. Cocteau had a love affair with the sea and mariners. He lived in Villefranche and worked on this church for over a year, covering the inside with his murals.
There is an entrance fee of 2.50 euros (at the time) with an attendant and strictly no pictures. They do sell a good selection of postcards of the murals, so take some spare change!
