“Big rooms, very helpful staff”

Hilton Lyon

Save Review
4 of 5 stars
Washington, DC

Yes, it's a chain and a bit old, which you can see it in the design, but my stay was overall, very good. The location is quite close to the train station. We had to take a cab though because of our luggage. The rooms are big, as are the bathrooms! We had a balcony overlooking the river, which was good. The hotel is located at an international center, close to shops, the Interpol, transportation and the art museum. I think this would be perfect for business travelers. It's also a short walk to the city center with the attractions, the bouchons, etc. There was a part of the building that was modern in design too, which I thought was interesting. The staff is great and very helpful. Brice of the concierge, really tried to help me with sending stuff though the courier.

“Good but not excellent!”

Hilton Lyon

Positive:
Very good location (a bit far from downtown but with good bus connection), Excellent service, friendly personnel, Nice and big rooms (some with view to the lake), very quiet, huge bathroom. Quality of breakfast food: excellent!

Negative:
No free internet connection, fee is overprized (starts with 10 euros/hr), no swimming pool (only jacuzzi and hamam for the owners of executive rooms). Most of the personnel speaks english but not everyone. Breakfast does not have big variety and is the same every day. Everything around the hotel's area (even the lounge bar) close after 11 pm (only choice after that hour is the casino bar - but it really sucks). Hotel does not accept prepaid cards (e.g. visa electron).

I stayed for 5 nights at a special rate due to a conference attendance and was overall satisfied. However i consider the normal rates of the specific hilton hotel totally overprized for its facilities and services.

“A great stop over...”

Hilton Lyon

28 Aug 2007

Presumably you are looking to stay at this hotel if you are there on a business conference or if you are using it as a stop over.

A drive from Calais to the South of France is a tad too far with kids in the back, so we decided to stop at Lyon en route and this was one of the highlights of our holiday.

The hotel has a safe car park meaning you can leave the majority of your luggage in the car
The staff were extremely courteous and the hotel clean
We had inter connecting business rooms, facing the river, that were of a good size
The hotel is a taxi ride to the main centre where there are many restaurants. We had breakfast at the hotel which was fine
The best bit of this hotel is the park at the back. My kids described it as an enchanted forest with a lake, boats, bicycles, a zoo, good food at the cafes, pony rides etc. We spent 6 hours in the park alone

One of the better Hiltons that we've stayed at....

“NOT hard to get to - look at the bus routes available online”

Hilton Lyon

20 Aug 2007

When arriving in Lyon, go to the Satobus terminal. Pay E9.50 for a one way Satobus ticket that includes a single ticket for the local transit system.

Get off the bus at Gar Part Dieu.

Walk along the same sidewalk a hundred feet or so for the tram stop for the C1 tram (modern looking hinged bus) heading for "Cite International". Get on and use your ticket for it (place it in the ticket reader).

This tram heads out towards and then along the river. Get off at the stop after Interpol, the hotel is across the street.

Total trip time was 10 minutes waiting for the Satobus, 5 minutes waiting for the C1 to leave, and maybe 45 minutes or less actually riding.

Besides, you'll see a lot more of the city this way than riding a Taxi. Use the savings for a nice dinner!

Comments: The hotel is a typical chain business hotel - clean, well kept, sheets a bit dated, and food definitely overpriced. Internet access is pricey (E17/day, E88/week) and I don't like that the fitness center is only for Executive Level guests only. However, there is a GREAT park on one side and the river on the other for a morning workout.

“Chain Hotel!”

For a newer hotel we were not excited about what we got from this large chain hotel. The rooms were very large yet were pretty worn feeling and not real clean . When we checked in we specifically asked if our breakfast was included with our rate (we were there for a conference). She looked it up and said that it was. At check out we were charged for the breakfast and they wouldn't do anything when we tried to dispute it. That morning yogurt I had was worth about $40.00 each day! The hotel is across the street from an amazing park and the buses come along often if you don't feel like doing the 20 minute walk into some of the historical areas of town.
