The following is a copy of an email I sent to CITOTEL about their Hotel Dubost in Lyon France. I covers all I can say in praise of what a great place it is.

To Whom It May Concern:

I wanted to congratulate you on having such a efficient, warm and friendly staff at the Dubost Hotel. especially Wue Teaure, I believe is her name, who took pity on my not being able to speak French, and used her skill to converse and help me in English.

My room was comfortable and very well kept. I loved the large window that let in loads of sunshine and allowed me a view of Place Carnot and its environs. Your location is as good as it gets. Right next to Perrache station, which had every type of transportation to everywhere!

The only thing I did not like was the cost (2.50euro per 30min.) of internet and I could only find WIFI in the hotel lobby; it was out of range in my second floor room.

I plan to send a copy of this letter to BOOKINGS.com, who made my reservation and TripAdvisor, of which I am a member.

Continued success to your people and company

This hotel is in a great location. Steps away from the train. Lots to keep you busy in and around the Place Carnot. The staff as previously mentioned were efficient but not pleasant. The bed was not bad/not great. The air conditioning was adequate for the weather conditions. The bathroom was old but clean. The breakfast consisted of a hard as rock bun, a mini croissant and a mini pastry with orange juice and coffee. There was some bread layed out for toasting. Unfortunately it was moldy. This put us off our breakfast completely. There was no fresh fruit which was surprising. I would definitely skip the breakfast and head for a local cafe or buy pastry and coffee off the street.

We stayed at the Hotel Dubost for 1 night. The location was great - we stumbled straight out of Lyon Perrache station and into Place Carnot. It was within an easy walking distance of everything we wanted to see, Fourviere, Vieux Lyon and the shops.
The room was a decent size; the bathroom was huge by European standards and did have a bath and shower.
There was a very predominant smell like mayonnaise, though, that really put me off this hotel. It just made it seem really cheap. We didn't have breakfast here, preferring one of the cafes in Place Carnot. The staff were a bit brusque.
This hotel was my least favourite of those I visited in France. I wouldn't want to stay there for long periods of time.

“A good two star hotel”

Booked via bookings.com. Price was reasonable, about average for a two star hotel.
We only stayed one night here but we appreciated the central location and the solid two star hotel comfort level.
Our room was a reasonable size facing the street. The windows had double glazing but didn't seal very well but the street outside wasn't very busy. The room had a climate control system of some sort but I'm not sure if it was air conditioning or just an air circulation system. There is a park across the street and also the rail/bus/metro/tram stops.
It was just two minutes walk to the main shopping strip if that interests you.
If you arrive at Part-Dieu train station you can take the number 1 tram straight to the hotel.

We booked a reservation through Venere. We received an email confirming our reservation. It had a reservation number, with all the information, dates, rate, room type etc. (In English)
There was one line in the middle of all this (in French, which I do not know.)
When we arrived, the rude woman behind the counter told us that we did not have a reservation.
I showed her the confirmation. She read it and pointed to the one French sentence, that she translated as there are NO ROOMS AVAILABLE. So why send out a confirmation, with all the information? If there were no rooms, then a simple email stating that should have been sent!!
Although the woman tried to find us a hotel, she was not sympathetic nor helpful.
After emailing both the Venere and the hotel, we have not gotten an apology or explanation!
I would never book through Venere again and go to The Hotel Dubost. I will make sure to tell everyone I know also.
