My husband and I, along with his mom, stayed 3 nights at this hotel at the end of April. We had a Corbeille Room (#104) and his mom had a Balcon Room (#408). Our Corbeille Room has a large king size bed, a little sitting area, and a desk. It faces the street with 2 large windows. During our stay, the weather was a little cool, so we kept our windows closed during the night and that kept our room nice and quiet. The Balcon Room basically has a queen size bed that takes up most of the room. However, this one has a window that looks over the inner courtyard and is very quiet.
There is a swimming pool where the breakfast area is, which I find a little bizarre. The smell of chlorine is a little unpleasant and I wouldn't want to have breakfast there. There is a boulangerie / patisserie just across the street from the hotel, and we bought wonderful pastries there (the almond croissants there are simply the best but alas they don't have it daily - so get it if you see it!!) to eat at the Lanterne Cafe with a cup of coffee or chocolate - we did ask the owner and he was okay with that. We spent about 12 euros for the 3 of us on breakfast every morning this way. It was much more economical and delicious than eating at the Hotel (who charges 12 euros per person for breakfast).
The location really can't be beat. It is an easy walk to Old Lyon across the river, and also to the City Hall, Musee des Beaux Arts and other shopping areas. We even walked all the way up La Croix-Rousse!! (Yes, we love to walk!) There is a supermarket right across the street from the hotel and it is very convenient to stock up on water and fruits for the day. The metro is right behind the City Hall (at the Opera).
If you are looking for a typical Lyon dining experience (Bouchon Lyonnais) - Cafe des Federations is right down an alley way 3 minutes walk from the hotel. Reservations is recommended and we had a wonderful time there. Yummy food at a very reasonable price. Don't expect a menu! You eat what they cook but you do have a choice in entree and dessert.
So by all means stay here... but take your breakfast elsewhere! If the size of the room matters to you, then go for the Corbeille room - it is much more spacious; otherwise, the Balcon room may seem a little cramped but still is pretty comfy.
Note: you'll see in the picture of the Balcon Room #408 has an A/C unit (but none in our Corbeille Room) - however it is still taped up - we didn't ask if it's functional since the weather was quite cool. If you stay there during summer, you might want to inquire at the hotel if the A/C units are working!
