The staff at the hotel were exceptional. They were helpful to the extreme and could not have been better. This is a quirky 14th century building and I would recommend it to anyone with a love of good hotels, history and value for money.

Great little hotel in the heart of Vieux Lyon. Perfect for exploring all the nearby sites of interest, such as the traboules, Fourviere and St Jean. Reception staff were very helpful and obliging when I asked to move to a room with a window to the front - some rooms overlook the internal courtyard. Very reasonable price too - £53 for a double room.

Hotel St. Paul in Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) was built around 1350. Needless to say it’s time for a renovation! HA! Actually, Hotel St. Paul was a nice hotel with a decent room including a full bathroom. The walls are mostly the original stone, I imagine. The bathroom was nice, however, the shower was a bit moldy. Also, there’s free Internet and a helpful staff. The window faces the courtyard and the hotel is generally quiet. One night cost 63 Euro and breakfast is another 6 Euro. The hotel is located on a quiet pedestrian street and nearby to lots of restaurants, shops, buses, a train station, and the subway.

Our first stop on our tour around France was Lyon. I found this hotel through Trip Advisor & wanted to "give back" with my sentiments. Hotel St Paul is situated in old Lyon, an easy bus ride from the train station. Old Lyon was, in my opinion, the better part of this city. It had cobblestone streets so chunky, forget about wearing heels, girls. It has the old puppet show, Punch & Judy, down the alley and lots of cozy restaurants to sit outside in and dine on decent prices (I suggest Le Tablier with the bright yellow table cloths and a total bill of only 54€ for a 3-course meal AND wine: god, I miss Lyon.) The hotel staff was friendly, especially the pretty lady running the morning shift. Our rooms had a nice big window looking out into the alley, with a *perfect* cafe/boulangerie right next door to get a really good sandwich. Of course, we had our own bathroom plenty big, TV, free wi-fi and a perfectly comfy bed. I liked the sandstones colors of the hotel and the bright lobby. My beau & I decided at all the places and hotels we stayed at around France, this was our favorite over-all experience. I highly, highly recommend Hotel St. Paul.

Hotel- This is a superb hotel, the rooms are compact, but warm (it snowed whilst we were staying) clean and comfortable. We had inner court yard rooms so although a little bit on the dark side were very quiet. The staff were very friendly and spoke good english, maps were provided and the key tourist areas and attractions highlighted by Werner the main receptionist. It is probably the best located hotel in the old Town.Recommendations for the traditional Lyonaisse Bouchons (restaurants) were followed up and in particular Notre Maison, 2 Rue de Gadagne can be recomended. 18E set menue cant be beaten, but go there hungry. A boulangerie accross the road on the Place Saint Paul is a good place for breakfast. If you are into stones and roman remains dont miss the gallo-Romaine museum, you could spend the best part of the day there if you read all the inscriptions. Old Lyon is lovely and there a many bars and restaurants near this hotel, probably 75 within a 10 min walk, I do not joke! These range form the traditional French bar/restaurant (The Theatre Bar in Place Saint Paul)to English/Irish pubs (Smoking Dog 2 doors down form the hotel)and Indian takeaways.
If you go to Lyon and dont mind compact rooms (What can you expect for £40 a night!) Do not stay anywhere else!
