Located on a quiet side street is this charming pension. We stayed during the summer months in one of their larger two-floor suites (which is pictured on their website - features a stairwell inside the unit to the loft area).
We found the proprietors VERY friendly! They don't speak English very well, if at all, but we spoke German, so no problem!
The mini-apartment/suite we occupied was spotlessly clean and spacious. Snowy white linens and fluffy down comforters awaited us on the beds. This unit features a small dining table, living area with small TV, phone, bath and ample closets on 2nd floor of hotel. Once in the unit, there's a stairwell to the loft area which featured a sofa bed and separate twin mattresses. The room was bright and airy; a small terrace stood outside. The view was not memorable (we had cloud cover limiting our view), but once on the terrace, a limited view of the ski slopes is possible. The furnishings were a few years old, but did not show appreciable wear. The room was quiet - we did NOT hear anyone in the hallway or in neighboring rooms.
The bathroom was immaculate. Excellent linens were provided - soft, amply-sized. Plenty of hot water and good pressure!
Off the living room is a small bedroom with two twin beds and a window. Mattresses were firm and comfortable. There was a closet for additional belongings; the bedroom was made private with a sliding pocket door.
Complimentary breakfast was provided; it was delicious, quite complete; they offered some items cooked to order. A lovely spread of breads, hard-boiled eggs, cheeses, hams, jellies/preserves, coffee/tea and juices were offered.
Pension Mirabel is more like a bed-and-breakfast. I do not remember any public rooms for socializing. Their "bar" was not open during our stay; there is no restaurant other than a breakfast room. Public street parking only. No lift/elevator; not wheelchair accessible. Rooms on 2nd floor require access by stairwell.
Pension Mirabel is 2-star on the basis of the very limited services it offers; but it is sparkling clean, quiet and very private. There are limited services - this is NOT a four-star hotel, so don't expect room service or should you need a towel, there may NOT be someone immediately available for "instant response service". What it offers is an EXCELLENT and very, very FAIR price - perfect for the budget-minded or a family with children. The mini apartment/suite is perfect for a family of four or five. This is not an ideal hotel for singles or anyone interested in features (health spa, bar, pool, etc.)
Dining, entertainment is anywhere from a moderate to long walk (> five or six blocks). Downtown Garmisch is a ten-minute walk. As we weren't here during ski season, we don't know how far a walk it is to the lifts.
We checked off "comfortable" purely because we were two people staying in a room that was VERY SPACIOUS for just two people. If five or six stay here, one might say "snug" and "cozy" as opposed to comfortable.
