“A perfect start”

Mercure Hotel Muenchen City Center

23 Jun 2008

My wife and I stayed here as the first stop on our European honeymoon recently and, what can I say, this was a great start to the trip!

Before booking our accommodation for the trip, I did a lot of research on Trip Advisor. After finding out that much of Munich was quite expensive, I was surprised to find that the Mercure Hotels website was doing such a cheap online deal for their city hotel.

Yes, there may be a couple of sex shops near the hotel but, I find that's the same with most capital cities and their main or central train stations. We never had any problems whatsoever wandering the streets during the day or night, if anything the shops gave the area that extra bit of character. The location of the hotel is perfect, across the road from the main station and only a short walk into the main historical centre of town.

Onto the hotel itself. The lobby is quite small but the people in reception were always pleasant and helpful and always had a smile on their face. There was also free internet in the lobby, although only 1 computer to enjoy this on.

I am not sure if our room was recently renovated but, after hearing about some people's stories in regards to the size and decor of some European hotel rooms, we were very pleasantly surprised! The room was huge, and the bathroom was just as spacious. We had a king size bed as well as a separate sofa and all of it was very new and stylish. The bed itself was ultra comfortable and we found the shower to also be of the highest standards. There is also a safe which is always handy.
We had a window but it really only looked out over the hotel's beer garden, but that was fine as it added to the flavor of it all.
We had a wonderful trip in Munich and the hotel really helped keep our minds at ease.

Overall, we could not recommend this hotel more. If all the rooms were as clean and spacious as ours, you will not be disappointed.

(PS: We also can't recommend enough Lenny's free bike tours which we found from just outside the hotel as well. Fantastic!)

this hotel is located right next to the main train station - which is handy if you want to get out of the city centre to explore - we went to dachau - but it's about a 10minute walk to the old city centre for evening entertainment etc - although the walk isn't strenuous as there's lots of shops on the way! the room was spacious, bathroom clean and well decorated. there is nothing bad to say about the hotel - but nothing super special either.

“Clean and delicious breakfasts”

Mercure Hotel Muenchen City Center

7 Jun 2008

The Mercure Munich City Centre hotel is not perfect but suited us well. The good points: very central location; the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in; clean and spacious room (we were in a disabled room as there were 3 of us and no family rooms available); breakfast cost 17 Euros but was wonderful - freshly cooked waffles, omlettes etc and really good quality food & plenty of choice. Children eat free.
Bad points: Because it is so near the main station the area is a little seedy - although that does not really matter if you do not intend to eat round the hotel area at night; a couple of the (male) reception staff could have been more helpful and the lifts were painfully slow.
All in all I would recommend the hotel and would stay again.

I stayed here with my boyfriend and parents for about 3 nights in March. Despite being near the Haptbanhof, which is usually a bad thing, it was great. The breakfast was fantastic - think it was only about 10 euros and the selection was amazing....better than most hotels I've been in. The rooms were large and not expensive. I've already recommended this hotel to a number of friends. All in all, a nice chain hotel.
