This is a true 5 star hotel with a good location, helpful staff, perfect rooms and some little pleasant details like providing the car of guests who are leaving with route directions, bottles of water and dragees.

Very nice hotel, opened last year. Very high-end equipment and materials in room. Loved the heated floor in the bathroom. Overall, a true 5 star hotel. Service was OK and a lot of attention paid, however not 100% perfect (e.g. roomcard did not work, got bill about consumption of mininbar sent to home although no consumption).

Overall, together with the Mandarin Oriental the best Hotel in Munich I´ve staid so far. In terms of standard just one class above chain-type of 5 star hotels such as Hilton or Sheraton.

Stayed for 2 nights while picking up an European Delivery BMW. Had no idea what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised at every turn. Had no problem with taxi finding address - cab driver knew that it was the Charles after I told him the street name. The only shock was the high cost (60 euros from the airport), but cabs in Munich are extremely expensive.

First impression is of understated elegance. The lobby doesn't blow you away, but everything is done very well & tastefully. All staff is VERY professional, accommodating & friendly. Front desk clerk actually takes you to the room & elevators require room keys for access to a guest floor (excellent security).

Room is quite large by European standards & lots of attention to detail. There was a small selection of English language books placed in room & all small notices (such as the daily weather forecast, etc.) had been changed to English (they knew that we spoke English from the reservation). Room was nicely decorated in a simple, modern style. Bathroom was quite large with separate soaking tub & shower, as well as bidet. Best bathroom feature was the heated floor - absolutely fantastic! Only negative is relatively little closet & drawer space.

Gym/pool in the basement is very nice. Didn't have a chance to eat in the restaurant or bar, so cannot comment on them. Concierge staff was particularly accommodating.

Location was quite central. It's not as close to Marienplatz at the Mandarin Oriental, but I thought that the M-O's location right next to the Hofbrauhaus (& its attendant throngs of drunken people) could actually be a negative.

In short, a wonderful property on par with Four Seasons, Peninsula hotels at which I have stayed. The staff & their attention to detail made it a wonderful experience. Am currently at the Le Meridien in Vienna wishing that Rocco Forte Hotels had a hotel here, too.

Stayed there for 2 nights in February and wish I’d stayed there much longer!
The hotel opened in late 2007 so all rooms are brand new.
This is probably the first hotel that I have (virtually) no gripes over at all. The only problem is that not all taxi drivers at the airport know the hotel so make sure you have the address with you.
The room is spacious yet not too big. The hotel faces the old Botanical Garden, which is boulevard-size but still provides a good shield from the city hustle and bustle.

Waking up at the Charles is probably one of the most pleasant non-holiday wake-up experiences in life. The bed is comfortable and rivals that at the Berkeley in London (my benchmark for bed quality to date). The hotel faces east and the sign lights up the room in the morning. A combination of green and beige colors works magic in the morning creating a positive mood for the day (that is before you get to the office). Overall, I’d say that the designer has managed to confer an Italian rather than a German spirit to the hotel.
On the practical side:
The laptop-size safe with a socket was very useful.
The in-room entertainment system has a good selection of music.
The bathroom is spacious with a separate toilet and shower cabin. The hotel staff were generous with hotel-branded bath supplies, which were all of excellent quality.
Staff spoke English and were very friendly and efficient.
I found the halls a bit dark and uninviting (blue paint with no décor), but who spends much time in the halls any way?
Breakfast was excellent, with a rich selection of high-quality fruit in winter. Coffee and tea were a bit slow to come though.
Dined at the hotel once and was impressed with the red Italian wine.

No plans to return to Munich any time soon but would definitely consider staying at the Rocco Forte hotels in other locations.
