I am now a big advocate of using TripAdvisor. Reading the reviews lead my family (wife and daughter) to the Hotel Hirsch. This was a perfect location to walk to the center of town and then hop in the car (private parking was nice) to see the castles a few minutes up the road. The room was very large and comfortable with the only negative, if a negative at all, was the traffic noise as our room faced the main thoroughfare. But all in all, a very nice one night stay with the owner’s daughter being a great host, the staff very friendly and the breakfast being quite good as well. I recommend the Hotel Hirsch.

Stayed here for one week from June 30th with a walking party booked through HF Holidays.The Hotel Hirsch offered excellent accomodation for our party of 19. The meals were very good and served by charming and efficient staff. The Hotel is extremely well located for walking which we were there for, but also for sight seeing which we did on our day off. The town of Fussen itself is very attractive with pleasant shops bars and cafes and many historic buildings.

Driving through Germany we decided to stop in Fussen and were 'walk-ins' to the Hirsch. We were offered a really good deal on the 'King's Suite' for our family of 3 for 165 Euros per night, breakfast included. The hotel is uniquely decorated in what I presume is an antique Bavarian style and quite a pleasure to walk around. The room we had was spacious and clean, the breakfast acceptable. No wireless internet unfortunately, but you can pay to use an antiquated PC in a back room for an hour. The charming city centre is just a few blocks away with outdoor restaurants and lots of shops. Our only real problem with the Hirsch was the lack of air conditioning. The high temperature the day we were there was 37degC (98degF) and the room was very warm and uncomforable all night. We had to sleep with the window open and the constant noise of traffic from the main street below keeping us awake, not to mention lots of insects drawn to the room before we turned out the lights.

I know it was last year that I was at this hotel, but wanted to write a review, just got into this review thing!! what a great idea.
The hotel was more than we bargained for, great location to visit the Bavarian Castles, which was why we chose it. about 10mins drive, to the car park , from where you can visit both King Ludvigs wonderfull castles. If you want to see both, get a combined ticket. They give you times for your tour, so be ther on time!! we nearly missed one tour 'cos we couldn't get on the bus. So, allow plenty of time to get there!
Anyway, back to the hotel. We had a wonderfull large room overlooking the main square. I can't really find a fault with this hotel, the shower curtain was a bit small, but that is the only thing I coould find fault with! All the other rooms we had a chance to peek into on the way to breakfast, all looked similar size, but we were lucky to have a such great view.
Breakfast was great, usual continental pastries, ham, cheese etc & some hot eggs & bacon. Very well served, can't fault it.
Staff were lovely, always said hello, where ever we went.
Oh, & one more thing, when we arrived it was snowing!! the view of the snow on the hills was beatifull. (the snow stays there for quite a long time) The next morning was clear blue skies!! I guess we were lucky to have it all.
Local restaurants/bars are great & good value, just a few mins walk away.
So, I would reccomend this hotel with hesitation
