Rothenburg is one of the prettiest cities in Germany and the Eisenhut is right smack in the middle of it. But if you are travelling in the warmer months beware there is no airconditioning and the rooms get very stuffy. The front desk staff is also unacceptably rude. Since breakfast wasn't included we ate in the bakeries a short walk away. When we checked out the staff wanted to charge us for breakfast automatically and acted incredulous "What? No breakfast? Both nights?" They asked this twice which is very insulting. They need to have a better system so that those who eat breakfast in the hotel give their room number or they should just include it for everyone. Also another staff was very unhelpful when we asked for tourist advice. I have stayed here twice. But after this experience will not return.

My wife and I spent three nights at the Hotel Eisenhut. The room was large (though the bathroom was a bit small), and the service was very good. We got a deal on Expedia (third night free) which made it a great value, as well. We had no trouble driving there (and they parked our car for 10 euros a night), and no trouble at all coming in after ten o'clock as a few reviewers have noted. There was always someone at the front desk during our stay, so we were able to get our key at all hours.

The town is wonderful. It is the fairytale place that many have described. Don't miss the Nightwatchman's tour. He's informative and very funny.

My only suggestions to Hotel Eisenhut would be to change the mattresses, which were not back friendly. However, we found that few places in Europe have back-friendly beds, so their hotel certainly cannot be singled out. Also, the room could have used a real safe.

There are many places to stay in Rothenburg, but we would not hesitate to return to Hotel Eisenhut, which is centrally located inside the town's walls and solidly four star.

The hotel surpassed my expectations. We had 2 rooms since we had 5 in our party. Both "Superior" rooms were quite large. Rooms fall into 3 categories: Classic, Superior, Deluxe. We had one room overlooking the street and one overlooking the valley. Both were good but the street windows were more picturesque. You will pick up all the street noise from people walking by but you also will be treated to the violin street player and the excitement. Rooms do not have airconditioning so if you keep your windows open in the summer, at 9:00 am you will be treated to the church bells going off for 5-10 minutes. Internet is wireless and you have to pay but there is a public computer in the lobby which is free. The location is ideal. If you want to visit Rothenburg and experience the magic of the city, you do not want to stay outside the walls. The nightwatchman tour starts just at the street corner. I highly recommend this tour. English at 8:00 pm and german at 9:30 pm.

Stay here! The town itself is, of course, picture perfect. This hotel is the perfect match for the fairytale town: beautiful, romantic, helpful staff, beautiful and enormous rooms, quiet, delicious breakfast- it was exactly what we had been looking for and what we had envisioned. You can't go wrong with this choice.
