“Nice modern hotel in good location.”

Moevenpick Hotel Berlin

9 Feb 2008

Enjoyed a short break in this modern hotel. Room was large and clean with funky glass wall to the bathroom. Breakfast was good, but a bit busy at times.

Hotel is located within walking distance of most attractions. Berlin was a lovely city. We'll be back.

“Nice”

Moevenpick Hotel Berlin

Nice hotel. Appearance is not conventional - quite funky.

Facilities were good. All very modern.
Breakfast was not included for me so I cant comment. I didnt eat there at all.

Location seemed ok - about a 10 minute walk to Potsdamer Platz. Probably about a 10 - 15 minute walk to Check Point Charlie.
All I know is that in December 2007 when I was there even a 1 minute walk was 59 seconds too long because it was so cold.

The room was modern and bathroom was fantastic - best I have seen so far in Europe. Big glass shower, free standing bath and plenty of space.

Smoking inside seemed all to common - the only negative aspect. Especially on the way to the lifts where there seems to be a designated smoking area so you have to walk through the stench of old smoke on your way to your room.

Overall - good hotel. Reasonable price. I would recommend this hotel.

“Enjoyable stay at the Mövenpick Berlin”

Moevenpick Hotel Berlin

Location
========

The hotel is located about 5 mins walk from Potsdamer Platz and about 1 minute from the Anhalter Bahnhoff. Most of the big tourist attractions of East Berlin are walkable from the hotel, (the big shopping area on Fredrich Strasse, Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Museum Island) and notably Check Point Charlie and the Topography of Terror which are within 5-10 mins walk.

Rooms
======

The hotel is an old building which has been renovated to a good standard with a very modern finish. The bedrooms are bright, clean and spacious, with large windows which could be opened to keep the room well ventilated. Unfortunatley the aircon in the room had a relatively high minimum setting, which, had I been staying during the summer, wouldn't have kept the room cool enough for my tastes.
As mentioned by other reviewers, the bathroom walls (seperating the bathroom from the bedroom) are are unusual in that they are constructed from opaque glass blocks. I didn't find this to be a problem, as they are opaque and only outlines can be viewed through them, however, the extremely shy or modest may find them to be a problem!
Toiletries provided in the bathroom where functional, with the shower gel provided in a full sized unit that was fixed to the wall, making it more convientent than the small travel sizes provided by some hotels. A nice touch was the pillow 'menu' which allowed you to select your pillows from a choice of about 5 or 6 different styles.

Food
====

We ate breakfast in the hotel as the breakfast buffet was included in the room rate. There was a good selection of cooked food, cereals, bread and fruit which was replenished frequently at busy times. We only had dinner in the hotel once for during out stay, on the evening of the Swiss buffet which provided a good selection of pleasant food, although nothing out of the ordinary.

Value for money
===============

We stayed in the hotel on their Surprisingly Different package, for 6 nights. This was a bed and breakfast rate which also included a dinner for 2 with a bottle of wine, free drinks in the bar on 2 evenings from 5-7pm, a packed lunch on a day of your choosing and 2 3 day travel passes. We enjoyed our stay and would seek out Mövenpick hotels in the future following our experience in Berlin. Overall a good value package, especially for longers stays. For shorter stays the per night rate increases and offers poorer value for money, but still worth considering.

“What more do you need?”

Moevenpick Hotel Berlin

We stayed at the Moevenpick on Jan 11th - 14th and had a brilliant time. I upgraded the room for €9 per night to a deluxe which featured a bath in the middle of the room which my girlfriend thought was the best thing ever. Room was exceptionally clean with very modern decor and the staff were incredibly polite and helpful. If there's anything negative to say it would be that the area isn't in the middle of a district with trendy bars etc but it's literally about 50metres from an S Bahn station so that doesn't really matter. Point of note is if you're going for a birthday stay make sure and book the special offer - we went as a birthday trip but ordered the normal package as we weren't aware of it until reading on this site. Saying that I'll still give it 5 out of 5.. Highly recommended.

I reviewed all the hotel's via Trip Advisor and opted for this one - and what an excellent choice! First for the location and closeness to the S & U Bahn 200 yard walk to the front of the hotel.
The reception staff could not have been nicer. We opted to take the upgrade if it was available and we got a delux room. The reviewer who complained about the pillows did not avail of the a la carte pillow menu - excellent as I am allergic to feathers. The chocolates on the pillows and the free water we thought to be a nice touch.
We also booked the Suprisingly Different package and took the meal on the first night we arrived .... what a delight on the palate .
The hotel is within dandering distance to the Potsdammerplatz which is a great location for picking somewhere else to eat. Don't rule out the Italian down from the hotel at the crossroads - a tasty bite without travelling too far.
Berlin surprised us on the whole and is in our top 10 of European cities.
