We paid a little more for a junior suite giving us access to 'The Level' and it was well worth the effort, because as well as free breakfast we had access to the lounge where we were able to get drinks all day, and a few snacks and wi-fi.
Because we booked on the hotel website we were also credited €30 per day of our stay to go against the restaurant and mini bar. We had a full meal with drinks in the hotel's tapas restaurant [excellent food] night one and drinks and snacks from the mini-bar another night, and only paid €15 on top of our total room rate as a result.
Another tip is to join the hotel rewards club on the website and you get offered an even cheaper rate for the room.
Only gripes were no free wi-fi in the room, and the x2 single duvets on the king-size bed- I personally prefer one big duvet. This seems to be something I only ever encounter in Germany, a duvet the size of the bed please. But I haven't marked the hotel down for these things because everything else was so great.
The room itself was also gorgeous, comfortable, clean, bright and airy with a large wardrobe with divided hanging space and shelving for two sets of clothing. The best hotel mirrors and lighting I've had in a hotel room.
A whirlpool bath, walk in shower and separate toilet room inside the bathroom for added privacy. Hi spec tv and dvd and cd player, complimentary water and an espresso machine and a pillow menu; we loved the room.
Very friendly staff too, something that is the biggest bonus each time.
Also, the hotel is perfectly situated for exploring the art cute hipster site of Germany and also tourist landmarks, as it's smack bang between the two.
Restaurants galore in the area, and you're near to the water for canal-side dining and theatre.
All in all, perfect.
