The staff behind the Reception desk were warm, friendly and helpful, which is always a good start.

Our room, which overlooked the courtyard, was quiet, comfortable, a little bit old fashioned and somewhat quaint. Fairly generous in size it had a door, with an obscure glass panel, leading to the shower room (no bath) and WC. Another door, or rather a quarter door of the wild west saloon type, which swung backwards and forwards, gave entry to wash basin area and a large wardrobe. No toiletries were provided other than a container of liquid soap fixed to the wall in the shower room and another in the wash basin area.

Breakfast buffet was very good indeed and had an impressive choice of juices, fruits and hot and cold dishes. We ate dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed some excellent food which was fairly expensive but not painfully so.

Potsdam is an attractive town and is easily explored on foot. The hotel is well located on the corner of the main square, making it an ideal place to stay.

Great value but I might be tempted to try another hotel next time if I can find something in the same price range. All rankings are out of ten (10 being the best). Town charm reflects the overall tourist appeal of the city since we enjoy walking the streets, visiting shops and sitting on street cafes. It does not reflect the number of activities or size of the city. The hotel was very clean and had very good service (9/10).

Steigenberger Hotel Sanssouci

This hotel was an excellent base to explore Potsdam and area.
Free transit passes are provided by the hotel and those allow you unlimited use of public transportation.
The hotel has bicycles for rental of 10 euros/day.
The spa space is a nice area with showers, steam room, and sauna. The space is co-ed and the modest should be aware that nudity is the norm.
Hotel staff are very helpful.
Breakfast was included and a complete array of food options were available.
Bottled water is very expensive, so walk down the street to the Kaiser grocery store and purchase your routine needs.
Easy access to the palaces and sights in the Park Sanssouci.
We enjoyed the boat tour on the Havel, this helped orient us for sight seeing and walking.
Anne Magritz helped customize our hotel arrangements and was very efficient and easy to work with. There are a wide variety of room prices that don't seem to make sense, so she can help you get what you want for accommodations and packages. We contacted her through the hotel email address.
Internet access is available for a fee, we purchased a 5 hour card for 9 euros, the time is actual usage time, so it was plenty to check our emails and manage our needs for the 5 days we were there.
The cocktail service in the lounge was available by going to the front desk and asking for service, then doing the same when you wanted to pay. I think that they had to use restaurant staff to do the bar service as a secondary addition to their job.

We spent 5 nights in this hotel in Sept. 2008. It was well located to tour the sights of Potsdam and easy enough to get back and forth to Berlin for a day if you want to. Your room key envelope provides free public transportation within Potsdam, Berlin and even to and from Berlin. It was so handy not to have to fumble around for the right change to go on the busses or trains.

Our room was very clean and comfortable. The buffet breakfast had a nice selection of foods and the waiting staff was very attentive. The front desk staff was friendly and most helpful.
We'd stay at this hotel again if we're back in the area.
