Firstly, let me make it clear that I had to pay 275 euros per night for my week long stay because of a fair being held in Frankfurt. This has coloured my opinion. Usually, it is 95 euros which is probably about right. I do think this hotel has something of an identity problem though. Viewing the well appointed atrium, bar and dining area, you would be forgiven for thinking that this is an upscale establishment. When you enter your room, it’s a different story, I’m afraid. With dingy dark green carpets, a TV monitor too small for the room, a washbasin that has no overflow so you cannot fill it and have to keep the tap running when you are shaving, towels so paper thin that they cannot be reused because they are wringing wet, a bedside lamp that I could switch on and off simply by moving the cord (i.e. dangerous), and finally, a stuffiness that no adjustment of the thermostat or air conditioning can mask, you end up having a fairly grim accommodation experience. While the glass shower cubicle next to the bed mentioned by others is a minor issue for the single traveller, the finish of the rooms is generally poor, with brown mastic showing where the door frames and floor tiles meet the wall. I think you can get the picture: refurbished in a rush. The evening meals in the restaurant were generally good if rather overpriced. I only had one hiccup with a ‘cream of asparagus’ soup that contained no cream and far too much salt. Breakfast is however substandard in that there ‘appears’ to be no hot food on the buffet as well as a poor selection of viennoiserie. Only on the second day, did the waiter who took my coffee order, offer me some bacon and eggs as well. The other serving staff appear to prefer to keep quiet about this extra service, which is just odd if not downright lazy. Had it not been for the single ‘kind’ waiter, I would never have known! I will say nothing about the area suffice that is off the beaten track so no great expectations in that regard. Needless to say, I shall not be returning to Flemings as it represents poor value for money; it appears to be overtrading while taking advantage of high seasonal rates and not meeting some fairly basic standards of comfort that a budget hotel would normally offer.
