“Excellent location for sightseeing BUT very small rooms even by city standards!”
A great location less than 5 mins walk from the train station, Dom, main shopping streets, River Rhine, Ald Stadt and at least 3 genuine Brauhaus! Polite and friendly reception staff, waiting staff and concierge all of whom spoke good English. Good cold selection on breakfast buffet but hot selection mostly luke warm. Lack of attention to detail however warrants this hotel as 4 star not 5. For example there was no valet parking, bell boy or offer to assist with luggage, hit and miss if you got your bottled water replaced in your room daily, limited mini bar selection which was not re stocked when used, no tea/coffee making facility in room and no hair conditioner in bathroom. None of this really bothered us but it may disappoint those after the true 5 star experience. Our biggest issue however was with room size. We arrived late and took to bed in our standard double, unhappy with the claustrophobic room but too tired to try and resolve it and thinking things may look better in the morning. In the middle of the night, as I got out of bed, I became entangled in the curtains, walked into the wall and stubbed my toe on a TV cabinet and the solitary wardrobe! Although not wide awake, I am not plus sized, disabled or elderly and nor was I intoxicated! With the side of the bed jammed against the window and foot of the bed less than 2 feet from the wall there was simply not enough room to get about when you are half asleep. I suppose I could of clambered over my husband but I am not sure he would think that an appropriate solution! The shower room was also very small; you could stand in the middle and touch all 4 walls without moving! In the morning we asked to move and were given a twin room (at no extra cost) which although the side of one bed was still jammed against the window still and there was only 6 inches between the beds, the room was at least 2 foot wider than the double room allowing enough space at the foot of the bed to get out safely in the night! There was also a bath tub with shower over (no bath tub in double) and plenty of storage space for a short stay (again not so in double.) The twin room is bigger and much less claustrophobic than the double and I would stay here again (in a twin only) simply due to the excellent location. For anyone looking to save money, take the S13 train to and from the airport for only 2 euro 60 cents each way - much cheaper than a taxi at around 30 euro each way. Very simple and easy to do! Get your hop on hop off bus ticket first, (a combined river cruise one saves even more) as there are lots of 2 for 1 offers available on museums etc with your bus ticket and map.
Go for a twin over a double - costs the same and you get a bath and shower instead of just a shower...
