Stayed here ( again ) in April 08.
The hotel is under new ownership , although still marketed thru' Best Western.
Still the same good reasons for staying here - position relative to the Koenigsallee and the Old Town ( and Schumachers Brauhaus across the street ! ) and decent rooms , and car parking.
I've noticed some changes , but the breakfast is still very good with a fantastic selection.
Still good .

LOCATION:
This hotel is located about four minutes walk from the Oststrasse station one stop away from the main station Hautbahnhopf. Most if not all U-Bahn stations pass through this station, so to get here, it's easiest to transfer at Hautbahnhopf from an ICE train or S-Bahn (if you come from the airport on the S1 or S7) to a U-Bahn, on almost any of the trains headed for the Alstadt area.

Kaufhof department store is about a five minute walk away, and the luxury street Konigsallee is a ten minute walk away from this place.

Just down one nearby street is a Plus supermarket for water and other basic snacks and fruit needs (or food souvenirs to take back). Also nearby an Asian supermarket.


ROOM:
Excellent room, clean, excellent water pressure in the shower. Toilet is placed a little bit awkwardly next to the sink and the soap dispenser is also strangely placed right above the toilet paper (so if you wash your hands you may end up dripping water on the toilet paper below?!) In the rooms there is a mini-bar (charged) and a safe (free); aside from shoe polish, there are no other amenities (soap and shampoo are provided in dispensers). Batht towels are not as fluffy as in some other hotels, a slight disappointment.

BUFFET:
One of the best buffets I've had in a hotel. Raw ham, mozarella with tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes marinated in olive oil, smoked salmon. Hot entrees: bacon, sausage, sauteed mushrooms, fried potatoes, scrambled eggs with chives. Two types of excellent freshly baked bread and also rolls hot out of the oven. Two different kinds of honey and maybe 9 different types of jams. Four different kinds of cereals, four different kinds of juice/nectars. Two different kinds of mineral water. Coffee and tea provided on request. Espresso machine also available (though not clearly marked). Cheese platter with four different kinds of cheese. Fruit salad and yogurt also available. And it all tastes so good.

Internet service in the hotel is Wi-Fi (paid) or at a terminal in the lobby (1 EUR/10 minutes (maybe)). Free newspapers next to the elevator. Friendly service at the front desk.

Stayed here during Karneval for a weekend. Pretty good price booked on Best Western website £110 for 2 nights. The hotel is 5 mins walk from station / Ko strasse, 15mins to heart of altstadt. There is a tube station 200m to right(north) of the front door. We had a beer / pub food at the Schumacher brewery 50m to the north of the hotel, a large busy popular establishment, but it only sells their alt beer, don't ask for Becks there! The room we had at the front of the hotel was noisy with the window open, but the double glazing cuts out the outdoor sounds except for ambulances. However, my one gripe is that german(european) non-smoking rooms tend to have been smoked in quite frequently, so we had to leave the window open in an partially successful attempt to clear the smoke smell. If you want a kettle and tea/coffee facilities then you have to ask at reception. The toilet/bath are excellant, with shower gel 'bolted' to the wall. The room was spacious with plenty of wardrobes and an easy to use room safe. There was a TV, with only BBC world as the english channel, one french channel , eurosport and a whole host of german channels. There is a pool in the basement with sauna facilities, you can borrow robes and slippers from reception. The big plus was the breakfast buffet, with a huge selection of cold and hot food, cereals, breads and pastries, juices and hot drinks. The buffet almost kept us going until tea. The reception staff were helpful, leaving luggage all day was no problem; my german was good enough to get by, so I never spoke english there, but presume they do speak english. In the local area there are plenty of small bars /cafes bakers and even a Kauhof ( department store) to the south of the hotel.
Overall a good budget hotel, centrally located with great food!

This hotel is very close to main train station, not to close but within 7 minutes of walking distance. No need for cab. I've double booked by mistake and young lady was kind enough to call my hotel reservation agency and resolve it without penalty, although it was 5 minutes to 6 pm. Double room was ok by city standards, but we never cared about size as much as about bed and bathroom. Bathroom was also good enough for 88 euros per night. Hotel is couple of blocks from KO and Old Town. Walls in the room were kind of in need of new wallpaper other than that it was ok for the price. My wife stayed there for another couple nights while I had to go on business. Last night we had to switch hotel for Four Points, since the stuff wasn't able to offer us a better or same deal. This hotel has a pool and sauna. Iron and bathrobe offered at reception on request.
