There are two Mercures in Saarbruecken: this one (Sud) and Center. The main difference between the two is that because Sud is 3 km south of the center (800m from the French border) the price is around 60% of the other one.
This Mercure is seemingly an old Novotel, and has been nicely renovated. Everything was clean, spotless almost. No dragline against the walls or the doors, just nice.
We spoke french at the reception, but the people of the Mercure speak perfect french too (we didn't try their english).
Seen teh time of the year, the tiny pool in the garden was empty.
Note especially that this hotel was build on top of the remains of a Gestapo camp for men (Neue Bremm). The monument and remains of the women's camp are just next to the hotel.
