I stayed at the Hotel Gode Wind in Kiel from the 2nd – 4th August 2006 and I have never met such an inhospitable hotelier in all my years of world travel. The booking had been made in advance but upon our arrival we were told that we had to pay for our rooms in advance, in cash. The landlady refused to take our credit cards and would not let us into our rooms until she had the cash in her hand. We were therefore forced to leave some of our party with our luggage and drive to the nearest ATM. Upon our return we were provided with our keys and I then discovered that the landlady has refused to allow my pregnant wife to use the toilet while she was waiting. The room itself was clean and functional and we have no complaints there – apart from not having any hot water when we returned from the beach one afternoon. Breakfast was a typical European fayre of bread rolls, meats, cheeses etc but there was no place laid for my 2 year old daughter, nor any bread rolls for her. When we asked for additional rolls this was refused. One of our party also asked for an extra cup of tea one morning and was abruptly told “You had one!” before the landlady walked off. Needless to say – the extra tea never did arrive. These may seem like minor points but the woman was so rude and abrupt I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. What kind of person demands cash before you can get access to your room and will not let a visibly pregnant woman use the toilet; does not provide simple bread rolls for children and an extra cup of tea for a paying guest.
