Just back from a stay at the Silken Malaga and found the hotel to be good value for money, but there were both positives and negatives.

The room rate, food and bar prices were all very reasonable. The rooms were clean and large, with comfortable beds and a good selection of amenties. Breakfast in the hotel was also very good and well worth the money. The spa was a nice extra, although a pool would have been a bonus. The location of the hotel was great, right beside the train/bus station and with a supermarket directly opposite the entrance.

However, the girl that we dealt with on the front desk a few times was pretty incompetent (her advice on the best way to get to Marbella ended up costing double of what she indicated) and on trying to contact the hotel prior to our stay to book dinner they didn't respond to emails and on phoning them I couldn't get anyone that spoke English.

The aircon in the rooms wasn't powerful enough to cool the room - I dread to think what the room temperature would be like in the height of summer. Also, the fridge in our room didn't work.

“Loved this hotel”

Silken Puerta Malaga

12 May 2008

Just returned from this hotel. We were a party of eleven.
The hotel is clean, modern interior, excellent sized rooms and the staff were very helpful and informative. We loved the jacuzzi and sauna facilities at the hotel and the buffet breakfast was fantastic. This was our first time in Malaga and we were very impressed. The station is a 5 min walk away and the city sightseeing tour also departs from here.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.

The Silken was a beautiful hotel. It was clean, decor was pretty and the reception was welcoming. I stayed here only one night but I would stay again because it was 2 blocks from the train and bus station. I used the train to and from Malaga on my visit. My only disappointment was with the spa. I really wanted some time in a hot therapeautic spa(hot tub) and this one was lukewarm. The spa area and sun room are designed and decorated beautifully.

Spontanously i decided to make a trip to Malaga. When booked this hotel on their homepage, I was suprised by the low rates. A normal room costs around 60 EUR, and a "Club Room" 95 EUR. I wanted a bigger room, so I decided to take a Club Room. Upon arrival I discovered that this was a real Junior Suite with twoo rooms, one extra toilet, two TV's a huge bathroom and a big terrace. The bathroom contained many, many amenities (like the guest WC), one bathtube with jacuzzi and one extra hydroshower, toilet and bidet. And all this for 95 EUR! To make the stay even more pleasant I ordered breakfast on my room. Not outstanding at all, but ok. Reception staff is not really friendly and enthousiast, howerver housekeeping and roomservice were above standard. The hotel is central, but other hotels are nearer to the historic centre. From this hotel it's a walk of about 15 minutes, which was absolutely okay for me. The only thing I disliked was the gym and the spa. Both a bit dirty and not very well equipped. Especially the gaym was ridiculous. If you need a goed gym, don't choose this hotel. If you dont't need it but want quite rooms in a modern yet classuc style (bathroom is very chique) this hotel is a very good choice for a good price

“Great, affordable stay at Puerta Malaga”

Silken Puerta Malaga

9 Jan 2008

We stayed at the Puerta Malaga for one night recently, and were very pleased with our experience. We got a great deal - paying only about $75 for a Saturday night stay - and it was an incredible value. The rooms are spacious, very clean, and modern. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a great spa on the top floor where you can enjoy a sauna or sit in the jacuzzi with a view over the city.

The location of the hotel was convenient, as we took the train to the airport the following day and it's just across the street from the station. The hotel is about 3 stops by train from the Renfe Station to the airport, and a one-way ticket cost only 1.30 euros. The hotel is an easy 15 min. walk to the main downtown area of Malaga.

One tip - if you're trying to find the hotel by foot or car, look for signs that say "Puerta Malaga" rather than "Silken Puerta". We were looking for the "Silken" and drove right by the first time.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean, modern, affordable hotel in Malaga.
