We stayed in this hotel in July 2006 for 12 nights. The hotel seemed nice when we arrived, but had a bad incident there. We accidentally left 400 euros in cash in the pocket of jeans and went to the beach. After we came back (an hour later) the money were gone. Of course I could put the money into safebox and nothing would have happened but you know when you are in spain, you get relaxed impressed by a good hotel and so on.. never before has happened something like that.. when we came to the reception and told about this problem (before leaving the room to the beach we saw a maintanance guy who was doing I do not know what in the corridor and waiting for smth, obviously for the moment we leave the room... so when we came to the reception the staff could not do anything (including no talking in English) and told the maintenance guy was gone already. Now I regret that we did not call the police, but what we thought that we would not have arguments enough because we left cash.. and thought we came here for holiday and we do not want to let our mood go down even more... so in general the hotel is good with its rooms and facilities but quite rude staff (especially an about 40 year old or more guy who knows how to speak in English but never does that). Be careful while staying in this hotel, because some not fair guys are working there..

This hotel is exceptionally clean and well maintained - with a modern theme. It's a bit characterless-more a business person's hotel in design, although there were plenty of holidaymakers there. We had a junior suite -which meant a larger room & bed (the bed was enormous!) The bathroom was great with a powerful separate walk in shower & jacuzzi bath. Toiletries provided were very generous - we also got bathrobes & slippers. As others have remarked before, it's a shame there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. The room safe was free, which was a nice touch. Our room was on the 9th floor & faced the street. Traffic noise was loud with the window open, but could only just be heard when it was closed - and the air conditioning was quiet & good. However, I'd recommend asking for a room overlooking the bull ring. The staff were friendly enough although the girl in the bar was hard work. We asked at reception if they could check our flight home, and although they weren't busy, & their computer was free, they said we would have to use the P.C. provided for guests on the first floor (for which we had to queue) All the staff spoke English well enough to get by. On the last day we left at 5.00pm. The hotel stored our case in a small storeroom for us, but would not look after our valuables, so we had to carry them around all day. We also had to change into our going home clothes in the loo - which was on a different floor to where the case was stored. To sum up - a few niggles, but overall clean, well appointed & quiet with the windows shut.

We stayed at Hotel Maestranza for our honeymoon from April 30 to May 5. The hotel upgraded us to a junior suite at no charge. The room was beautiful, marble, hardwood, very modern look. Jacuzzi, waterfall shower, and the balcony had the mediterranian sea to the left and the gibraltafour wall and cathedral to the right. The staff were incredibly helpful, the location of the hotel is perfect, right next to the beach and minutes to walk to all of the beautiful sights in malaga. Across the street from a grocery store, and surrounded by incredible restaurants, gorki, oriental gong, el rey del rodizio, and right next to the malaga bull fighting arena. i highly recommend this hotel!!! only warning, stay away from the room service, we were delivered a couple of hamburgers that were way off, whoa!!

I stayed there for one week and found the hotel was spotless and staff very friendly, even booking us a taxi to the airport without asking them.
We stayed on the second floor and our only complaint was there was a club underneath the front of the hotel that went on till 6 am some nights, and you could hear the bass from the music,it was a little annoying tryning to get some sleep!but we aint that fussy so didnt really mind but just letting you know incase you get a room at the front facing the roundabout!
We would stay again just a different side of hotel!! :)

“Good location shame about the noise!”

Hotel Maestranza

1 May 2007

I have just returned from a 3 day break alone to Malaga. Nice city - lots of art and history to absorb if you so desire. This is really a very authentic working and bustling city, not your infamous lager lout territory. Form the hotel to the city centre is a good 10 mins walk [leisurely pace] along a palm tree lined boulevard.

For all you shoppers take note - if you are looking for the El Cortes Ingles walk right through the city, its on the right and all the lovely little boutiques and jewellery store are in the larios square [ you won't miss it!]

The hotel has an internet connection that you can use for free - its on the 1st floor, next to bar/restaurant.

For the sake of 12 euros I would order breakfast from Hotel - buffet style hot and cold and plentiful. I tried to order breakfast elsewhere and to be honest, its just as easy and a lot less hassle to order from hotel. The hotel staff are so lovely too!

Things I didn't like - due to being on the roundabout, the constant traffic, particularly mopeds, i was on 3rd floor and it was relentless. I wish the spa had been open before 1630 hours. It is open Mon Sat 1630 - 2130. On a dull day like yesterday it would have perfect to have gone up to the spa during the day. Also wish there had been tea and coffee facilities in hotel room.

All in all a good short break destination and a lovely clean example of 4* star hotel.

    • Liked — friendly staff, comfy bed!
    • Disliked — the noise of traffic and the spa not opening until 1630
